Been a lurker for a while now too. I bought the cruiser about 2 years ago. and been modding it ever since... the photo is from when I first bought it.

It came with the safari snorkle already installed.
In photo, had the brush guard (since been replaced with an ARB winch bumber) Warn 9500 winch installed...
Currently, working on dual batter setup including 90amp alternator bumped to 160amp rewired to 2gauge alternator cable, battery cables and ground cables and dual Odyssey PT1200MJR batteries. Planning to do dash control switch for the winch.... once complete (end of July 2011), I will move onto the IronMan 4" lift.

3FE

I've been wanting a cruiser for years. Have had 2 other yotas up to this point and just got my 92 a month ago. 253 on original motor. So far nothing more then new sparks, wires, cap and rotor and runs like butter. Pretty sure its original suspension too, but that'll change soon. Underpowered of course. Brand new to the 3FE so any suggestions with what to watch for? And anything less major I can do for now to give it a little more umph? I had a K&N intake on my Taco that made a big difference, but don't know how the 3FE will respond to it.

Will be doing a 2" or 3" OME with 32x11.50's on steelies in march. Anyone know the best offset or backspacing to put the tires flush with the fenders?

Timing will make a big difference as well as correct adjustment of the throttle cable. Timing isn't easy to check, get a buddy to help.

Stay away from the K&N on the 3FE. The oem filter is washable, has more surface area, and filters better.

Sweet. Thanks for the tips. Found the stuff on timing. Was gong to play with that this weekend. Maybe I'll tinker with the smog pump too.

So stay away from K&N all together? The previous owner put a K&N filter on it. Should I trash it and get an OEM?

Sell it on ebay or something. Then get oem or second choice would be a Wix filter.

Here is what I mean about the size difference:

Got this LC a few months ago. More pics to come.
These are the Craigslist pics.

1991 Toyota FJ80 3FE 180,000 miles. No rust, New upholstry, Bfg All Terrain Pizza Cutters(gotta be 28inch tires), stock 15inch alloys, Low rider spring sag in full effect, over heats, leaks oil, leaks transmission fluid, Check engine light on, tint is destroyed/melted, antenna broken off, blown speakers and the paint is gnarly oxidized. Needs work. Bought it for $3500.

Nice K&N filter. I bet that part crosses over with a dozen or so other vehicles as well. Man thats small. I ran one in highschool (flat style) and then learned what it does to the intake. Oil and buildup everywhere.

It's time I joined the fray. Here's my truck, most of the mods are in the sig line. The second pic is of the rear storage area, and the third is of the dual batts.

What lift do you have on yours? I see the sig states OME, but what springs?

Update 91 lc fj 80 3fe

UPDATE: Head gasket blew and I had the engine totally rebuilt top and bottom, new radiator and lots of new hoses. Took it to Custom Motor rebuilders here in Tulsa Oklahoma. Cost me $3300 with the radiator and hoses included. Got it back and it ran like a real dog. Slow and rough. Took it back and the guys advanced the timing "13 Degrees". Runs alot better now. I also cut off the cats and kept the muffler. Sounds good. New stereo, speakers,t3q stickers, score off road racing sticker and I had Alta mere in Tulsa retint the windows. I had some serious spring sag, So I just went ahead and ordered a lift from Man-A-Fre. Old man emu soft springs (i want a smooth ride). 2inch lift in the rear and a 3inch (1 inch poly spacer) lift in the front to level it out. The kit cost me $1100. After the lift I had some 31" super swampers on the LC, They rode like hell! I mean terrible!!! So I switched them out for a set of Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ's sized 285 75 16. I had the stock 15" yota alloys and switched to a 16" steel rim (16 hole). The rims are the spare wheel from a Tundra/4runner 2001-2004 or so. I had the guy at the salvage yard order 5 for me. Only took 4 days to get them at $60 a pop. I love the rims because they don't make the tires stick out the side of my LC, I wanted my tires under the truck. The 285 75 16 Mickey's don't rub at all and they are super smooth compared to the super swampers. They look good, they don't look too small for a lifted LC. I was thinking 35's but, my gas mileage is bad enough already. Here are some pics.

hey my names xach everyone, i have a 92 fj80 stock on 33s. im new and dont know much.. total newb

Yesterday I bought a 1991 LC with 249,000 miles on it. Power steering leak somewhere, EFI relay issue, drives okay. It accelerates slowly (if you can believe that), but I am primarily going to use it for a snow/weekend vehicle.

I owned the LC for four or five hours and ordered the hood prop mod stuff and the McMaster Carr hatch lift mod stuff--so, within a couple of days, I will have slim nuts! And gas struts. And a rod!

I'm kind of wondering what all I need to do to get my new ride roadworthy--I printed out the recommendations referred to in #227, and I am going to start on that over the next couple of days. I may get a mechanic to do all the fluids the first time.

I saw another LC owner here from Asheville, NC; that's my stomping grounds as well.

New Guy

Clint - Knoxville, TN

Just got 1992 fj80.

6" EMU Lift

Traded my Dinan 39 BMW for it. I had 89 Toyota Pickup in the past with 3" body and 4" suspension 35 x 14 Gumbo Monster Mudders. Started driving cars and now I'm back! I love the cruiser! My 10 month old 130lbs Great Dane puppy appreciates me getting a ts the beginning of a long list of mods.
vehicle big enough for him.

It's a daily driver, but I'm going to see what these locking differentials can do! I want to get a tire in the 35" range ASAP. I want some mud terrains similar to bfg km2. Nothing to hardcore but not and all terrain tire. The bumper is bent and would like to replace it with a Slee bumper as funds allow. No winch needed right now. Maybe in the future when it's not dd.

Hello :) (Phoenix, AZ)

Hi everyone. :) I'm new to the club and look forward to learning many new things here.

Recently, I purchased a 1991 FJ80 w/160,000 miles and a cracked head. lol :) -- Machine shop said the head is repairable, so I'm in the process of rebuilding my first 3FE.
