manifolds and carb are on. down pipe starters are on. just gotta twist up some pipes to marry to the drops and off I go...

pics of the mock-up on the spare block, and of the final curing process after the electrolysis. it's canola oil...

pipes on(shorties for now, I need more pipe...) next is find a washer and cap for the EGR fitting. hopefully the 2F EGR cooler fittings have what I need- and I have a quarter for the cap;)

What's with the BBQ picture? Did you season them like cast iron cookware? I am running the same setup on my 2f. I just found something that fit in the egr fitting and welded it shut. I haven't had any problems with leaks in two years of running that setup. My brother wants to find a cupple sets of the manifolds for himself.

NICE! I was hoping someone else who had experience with this would pipe up!. Yeah, the BBQ was for curing the manifolds after de-rusting them with electrolysis and rubbing them down with canola oil. I wanted to use the bacon grease, but the Boss said H*** NO! does youe EGR fitting have a washer between the fitting and the manifold?

Very nice work. Though I would have used a first-crush, extra-virgin olive oil instead of canola...

No It doesn't have a washer. It just screws in to the side Of the manifold. Very tightly. I needed a long breaker bar and a mallet to get it off. (this was before I had an impact gun)

Also safflower oil is the best for seasoning cast iron....

Exhaust manifolds
extra virgin olive oil! you SPOIL your girls, don't you? Don't give mine any ideas:lol: or she might stop proving herself to me!
Safflower, huh? and Thanx on that tip for the fitting
Thank you guys

ok, it's an animal. reminds me of my old Camaro before I swapped in the edlebrok intake, 4 barrel and cam. speedo said 60 when I shifted to fourth at 3500 rpms- there was more pedal still, much more pedal:grinpimp: but it sounds like an airplane:hillbilly:

Resurrecting this thread after looking all over, and at tons of pictures, but still not finding what I need.....

I'm putting a set of 3FE manifolds on my '75 open chamber 2F head. I've already ground down the corners of the heat riser on the intake, and will be milling the flanges of the exhaust manifold to the proper thickness. My question is regarding a few of the lower mounting holes on the 3FE manifolds.

Since my early 2F heads do not have the bosses cast into them for those bolts, I'm wondering if this will be an issue. I can't find any pictures online of the manifolds mocked up without the intake also in the picture.....which covers up the holes I'm trying to see.

Am I going to run into exhaust leak issues down the road, or will the strength of the cast iron flange be fine without those bolts holding it to the head?

Also, I haven't tried fitting it up with a gasket yet, but I'm assuming that I need to use the 2F gasket, correct?

Thanks....

I've heard of many recommending them as an option for 2F exhaust manifold. I've never heard that there were missing mounting locations... Yes, you would use the regular 2F gasket.

I'll check again when I get the head back from the machine shop, but I'm mostly sure I saw some missing attaching points towards the bottom......I wonder if that's where the locating dowels would be on the 3F / 3FE head. I recall seeing something about those being missing when putting them on a 2F.

You will likely be fine with the 2F only nuts holding the 3FE exhaust onto the head. I did this swap 4 years ago and have put at least 60k miles on the exhaust and have had no leaks. Yes, use the 2F gasket.

Did you mill down the flange on the manifolds, or build up the flange on the intake? I was planning on milling down the exhaust, but now I'm leaning towards having a buddy of mine tig weld the intake flanges to build them up, then spot face them to the same thickness as the exhaust.

Neither one but I think having the flanges same thickness is a good idea. I purchased Toyota washers, cut them in half, and JB Welded the 1/2 washers to the aluminum intake to approximate the thickness of the exhaust. It has worked but not that well because some of the washers were knocked off during the installation, even so I have no leakage. My thread on this 3FE exhaust on 2F head
