Hello
I have a 1981 BJ42, and don't nothing about the history of the truck.
I want to pull the the oil pan down and inspect the main annd rod bearings.
The odemeter does not work and I was told there was 300.000 km.
Can I use silicone on the pan for gasket?
Complete bearing set 4 rods and mains only $ 65. Once I know either standard or over, I will replace them. Good insurance for engine.
Engine will start with no glow plugs @ + 0 deg sitting overnight and will turn over about 5 times and start, telling me compression is good.

Toyota FIPG # 00295-00103. I hear the mechanics are required to use it for any warrenty repair work. They have another FIPG they use for "regular" work. I used the 00103 a few weeks back on my leaky 60 on the oil pan and side cover. That, and with the front main seal replaced I am drip free!

You can go cork again if you want too. I think I am changing over to FIPG now, after staying faithful to cork for a number of years.

FIPG, is that not friggin ipervious pukey gum.

Ya I heard of that stuff, you gotta chew it in your mouth like Mcgiver and then put it on the oil pan, stuff tastes awful.

That's the stuff Rob. Fixes front end wobble situations too. No need tightening or replacing anything. Just chew and spit...holds on u-bolts, replaces worn bushings...Heard it fix's caster problems too!

Seriously, waaz, there are a few places you want to use toyota's FIPG. The oil pan is one of them.

Now thats the shat Dave.

Greg, good to hear you are feeling much better and I have to poke fun once and while.

Sometimes we get so caught up in meanaly stuff, hope most on the board can make bun of themselves once and awhile.

Laughter is a great thing.

By the way, Sheldon and family are coming over on a Biz slash family visit tomorrow and I know you are off the bean juice(beer). So I will have to share a few with Sheldon and Tanya tomorrow.

All the best......

if you plan on dropping the pan more than once then use silicone on the pan and a cork gasket next to the block. the silicone holds the gasket in place and the cork keeps the pan easy to drop...
just my suggestion...
cheers
