I'm also interested in this question. Also, anyone know the idler gear size ( 34 or 38 ) and then if the lower US gears can be swapped in?

I got one coming over on a boat, so this would be excellent info for me.

Idler shaft size is increased to 38mm in 4/86.

It appears that all H41 and H55 trannies are backed by the 1.99 t-case.

HTH.

Sounds like we need a couple of H55F's torn apart so we can get numbers :D

If there are any updates I'll add them to my site. Thanks!

Son-of-a-bitch. I guess I volunteered myself for that already, didn't I?

So arguably, a USA transfercase with a Non-USA transmission, is the best of both worlds.

I find it interesting that the gearing in the t-case behind the A440 is also the lower range case. That makes the argument even stronger for using the FJ62s transfer case, since it's the only case with the lower ratio, the 38mm idler, and bearings instead of bushings supporting the output shaft gears.

With the info posted by by others about converting the FJ62 t-case to manual shift, that's just about the ideal transfer case for long term use...say behind a Toybox.:hhmm:

Very cool gents.

Or possibly a non-us case with US gears in it so you only have to take the rear half of the case off. I'll try it out when I get my new one.

That under drive set seems too expensive to me, but I bet it rocks! Can you get pictures of the stock 1.96 gears?
