Shouldn't you be looking to the Aussies for your answers instead of me? You (and some others) have the fender issue and I do not. Get with them for the solution.

OK...I'l take a picture for you. :D

But note...looking at a 100 when totally compressed (even your pic shows this), your bottom part of the lower arm is almost perfectly parallel to the ground. I have a ton of pics already like this.

You are claiming the only one without issues, even Slee called you on it. Smoke and mirrors the norm for you when wrong:popcorn:

My intention is not to add smoke and mirrors, or to cause any further debate, I simply do not have any fully compressed photo's with the wheel turned......why....becasue I have not been able to get away to put the vehicle in that situation as yet. The mod's for me are only a couple of months old, I cant wait to get it on some decent tracks, then I'll get pics and see if there is any issue or not, you can however rest assured that I will be taking it very slowly to get the car into that position - just in case :hhmm:

I posted the pic's because there was a request for any side pictures, thats all.

Steering stops have nothing to do with the tire catching the fender. Neither does the plastic wells. IF they bumpstopped the front then it would help however they'd lose the added travel the UCA's provided.

Tire catching the fender under full compression when under full steering lock (or some point close to it) is the situation in question. Despite what you think, steering stops have quite a bit to do with this...

Plastic fender liners are what most people are catching. You're right, it's not sheet metal, but for many people they do not even want to catch the liners. Unimpeded wheel travel is the goal.

I think this was discussed rather smartly on TomB's build thread (page 1). Excellent suggestions to remedy any problems that may arise by going with 35s. If it works for you, great. If you're having problems or if you're concerned about rubbing, I suggest finding his thread in the FAQ.

There is know doubt at full compression the clearance is minimal but I have not seen any evidence of tyre rubbing.

I am not a fan of posed suspension travel pictures but this shows that there is a fingers clearance with it on the bump stops.

Interesting! This confirms my results so far. I'm sure at some point on the trail I'll be in a spot where I can snap a picture. We shall see. Thanks for posing! :)

My setup:
OME t-bars, 2.75" lift, 315/75 BGT AT/KO's, ARB combo bar + winch (weight)

Q> Can you damage your fender metal with 35's?
A> Yes. I did coming off a ledge in Moab with the steering wheel turned. The dent was fairly small.

Q> How frequently do you chafe the plastic fender skirt?
A> For me, it was fairly frequently until I addressed it. The majority of the hits occur during 'spirited' touring speeds which is how I like to travel.

Q> Is there a cheap and easy way to fix it all of this?
A> Yes. I unscrewed my front bumpstops and stuck 3 fender washers/per side under there. I also added some light duty locktite since there isn't much thread on the bumpstops. Everything has been fine and impact free for +1.5 years. I do not notice the slight loss of upstroke while crawling. I also have a BL sitting on my shelf which was going to be the longterm solution, but given how well the washers work, the ROI for me on the BL is a bit too low. Since I have an ARB combo bar, I need new accordion mounts or put slugs in the existing mounts to repin the combo bar to a new height.

As already mentioned, the bumpstops are not rigid. It takes a more forceful upstroke to deform them and rub the fender.

I'll probably need a new steering rack eventually, but for me the 35s are worth it.
I've been able to cruise over obstacles that gave my 4Runner w/ 33s problems.

Now if I had 35s on a solid axle I could eliminate all the steering/CV issues :P

Someday...

Great post! And yes, I think this is one reason I do not hit the fender. I'm slow-going crawler type of driver. Regardless, it sounds like it might eventually happen though.

PHIL and SLEE: Comments on Muddy.Au's results/setup?

Hey John, my 1.9" tires rub, what can I do to help this? Can I lift it higher or no? I also did the N74L long travel setup and it works GREAT. I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW AWESOME IT IS!!!!

That's one sweet suspension! Those are XJ-N74L++ shocks in the rear. Then notice the front's do not rip the fender off? It's due to the XJ-SFA-BIRF-MOD.

Still too hot out. I have nothing to put to rest any longer. Muddy.Au posted up. Same results as I've had (so far). Maybe you-all can ask him for more info.

Too hot!? Are you kidding me? What is your 100 going to overheat? Oh wait, only 80's overheat right?

We wheel all summer long in Vegas, you just deal with the heat.

Us old farts would overheat. Ya, we've been avoiding the heat this year. It's been bugging us for the first time. Plenty of wheeling time coming though. That's good. The weekend getaway trips along with Guess and Bebe stores have been draining my wheeling funds!
