35" tyres on landcrusier

I like to stir up John :flipoff2: I love scale RC, I'm always working on it and trying to squeeze every mm of travel our of it without entering "comp" truck territory. I think I have reached my goal.

In other words, the 295's on mine get close. With my suspension setup they can get within a half inch to the fender. I have been offcamber and was a little closer. I'm sure if you REALLY tried, you could hit with a 295 doing small jumps and turning. Which probably would result in a rollover. I can mess around Saturday at the LC run at RiverRock and see if I can get it to hit. Or see how close I can get them. I will take pictures of the bumpstops as well :)

Try turning around a big rock as the weight shifts and you slam down on that tire. Which can also result in a rollover...

First Post!

Yup, another guy searching for guidance on what size tires to buy for my recently purchased 100.

What a great thread! I have learned that it's just really, really on the edge.

My comments:

Shots. First, your build thread is great! Those pics were the final motivation to move from my beloved 4runner into an LC. Second, post the pics of your rig at compression in a turn, so that can be done. However, I don't think it really matters. I think you are all right, and yes, you all understand the travel of the front end, okay.

I am going to leave this thread with this conclusion:

A tire undergoes different forces under different conditions. Temperature, torque, speed, load, etc all affect the properties of the tire and apply different forces on the tire...and that causes the tire to deform constantly. It is not a consistant shape. Top this off with the varying shape of different brand tires with identical standardized measurements, and arguements like this are bound to occur.
You are not performing controlled experiments here, folks. The unit of measurement for something can't be any more precise than the varying shape of the parts you're measuring...the tires.
When a tire size is right on the edge, like the 35's you will likely get thousands of varying results based on all the combinations of the variables.

I think I have my answer.

IT IS ON THE VERY EDGE.

Thanks guys for the thread. I may not know what tire size to get, but at least I have a better idea of what to expect when I get it.

GREAT POST! And I think you are spot on. Different tires, T-bars (spring rate), driving style and type, all play a part in whether it hits or fits. I subscribe to the probability that under EXTREME loads our 35's will hit. Mine just havn't hit in years and years since I went to 2.75" up. Will it down the road? I doubt it cuz I won't try and roll it like 2000UZJ on those hig speed manuevers. :D

Had a good look under my cruiser today and I think this spacer on the bump stop is why my tires don't rub.

Hmm, what have we been saying all along? Oh well, Shotts will dismiss it somehow, as he always does.

The laughs on you guys! Realty is I've got 160K+ miles and 9+ years wheeling with no ripped fender. Maybe my dear old Sway-A-Away's are to be cherished vs OME, etc. Maybe it's because I rely on finesse instead of skinny pedal. Either way...my setup works and incredibly for crawling. I don't jump over dunes and fly down 3-foot ledges...I crawl.

We're all learning here about different variables. It's been a great thread. From what we've read in this thread I think one would need to lower their stops if they are doing higher-speed driving and/or using softer T-bars and/or lower lift heights. For me...I need to do just keep wheeling. IF the problem was frequent on the 100's then we'd see threads on this every week.

Or maybe its because you dont really wheel just pose:princess:

I look forward to seeing this pose from you....
Stuff bump stop.webp

Hey Mr. Gentle: How many steering racks have you burned through?

:flipoff2:

NOPE! But another shock could IF I was willing to cut, etc like that Runner owner did. It would be sweet.

Oh, and Podvin's 100/LX can by the way.

So I did some testing today as promised. A 295/75/R16 will come close to the fender. Not sure how much taller a 315/75 is exactly. But Mr.Shotts has not GIVEN US ANY :D
