Got the tires and wheels and could not wait to put em on....

So they went on with no lift.:p

35 x 12.50 x 17 BFG Mud TA KM2 on 17" Black steel wheels

I have already removed Running boards, Mud Flaps, front and rear bumpers and Fender flares. With the 35's on there was no rubbing anywhere, even when flexed and turned. I was very surprised.

I think the truck handles a bit better then before. This could be from the slightly wider track. The Mud TA are quite loud and make themselves known above 60 mph.

I have the slee 4" lift going on this weekend and I'll post again when that's done.

Below is a full stuffage shot of the rear.

Looks really good but I want to see pictures after the 4" Slee kit is installed. I basically have the exact same plan for mine. I will definately be keeping track of this thread, thanks for posting.

What about a re-gear? Do you have any plans?

Curt

What kind of rims are those? What is the back spacing? Where did you buy?

The wheels and tires were both purchased from Discount Tire.

The Wheels are 17 x 9 Unique 297-8960 according to the recipit.

They dont have these wheels online or in any cataloge you neeed to ask for them.

I just bought from Discount also and was considering this combo. I believe the standard backspacing is 5" for the Unique branded wheels. I ended up buying the Rock Crawler branded wheels(look exactly the same) with 4.25" backspacing and Toyo OC MTs in 35-17-12.5. sorry, no pics yet and is it raining here in the SJ. Going to add black lugs to mine to complete the look. FYI, I paid $70 for the wheels and $290 for the Toyos. I could not find a better price and the free balancing and rotations make the price even better.

Why did you go with the 17" tire/wheel combo? The 16" wheel size is cheaper, and yields the same height. You could have also kept the stock wheels, which I think are lighter than those steelies.

This will probably be my next tire.

Yeah, that looks very nice, indeed. I have a set of these wheels but in 16's with 0 offset (4.5 BS but mine is Cragar Soft, I think). I'm thinking about putting KM2 on them too.

Thanks for sharing.

I don't believe they are available in all sizes in a 16" rim at this point. Wish they were.

I like the wheels also, I have the same unique wheels only in a 15" on my 80. I picked them up a couple of months ago from Discount Tire as well, they seem like a pretty good place to do business with, Im sure there a few horror stories about them out there but they really treated me right.

I went with the 17" for several reasons

My stock wheels were well used and quite ugly IMO.

I have had black steelies on all my prior 4X4's. Why change a good thing. I like the look.

Most of the new tires in sizes 35 and up are available in 17" rim size
Esp. the new Mud TA KM2. I was having trouble finding 16" 35's.

I was happy to shorten the side wall a bit on such a large tire. I think this improves road manners a bit.

I think the larger wheel looks better.:D We have had a few trucks through the shop with 37+ tires on 20" wheels. It's a good look.

I too like the larger wheel 'look'. Right now though, my check book speaks louder. I also get concerned about adding more weight, especially in 'unsprung' weight. The fact that it's also rotational weight just makes it worse.

If you leave the flares on 315/75/16 Toyo MT's on stock rims rub without question. I'm yet to be convinced that others do not rub as well.

Find an incline and approach it at a 45 deg angle. If you lead the approach with your pass side front tire, your driver side rear will begin to rub at about the point where your pass rear tire is unloaded.

One other reason for a 17 is that it is 9" wide. It is hard to find a 16x9 wheel. And Discount Tire will not mount the 12.50's on an 8" wide wheel.

the tires and wheels look good...hows your articulation now?:)

they are available in a 35" for 16" wheels....

315/75R16 tho nothing smaller than that same goes for the 15's nothing smaller then 35/12.50R15

I tossed 35" BFG AT's on a stock 80 and it looked awesome. They gave it the death wobble at 40mph though, so they came off....for now :D

wow that looks sweet thanks needed that picture for incentive and motivation... time to go get some for my bj46
