what are your guys thoughts on these tires in these sizes which would be a better all around road and offroad tire how is the 35 bfg at off road capabilities compared to the 33inch km2's

the AT's are much better for icy conditions and are more pleasant/quiet on the highway.

Unless you spend alot of time on the highway and are picky about road noise, I would definately go for the KM2 in a 35", they'll be much better in the sand and mud I'd guess.

i say go for the 315 's ....this is coming form the guy who has 285's on his truck and two brand new 315 in the garage and 2 more on order

I think you need to provide some more information in order to get the best advice.
- Are you willing to re-gear if you go with the 35s?
- What year is your cruiser (1FZFE would have more power for this heavier and taller combination)?
- How much driving are you doing on road vs. off?
- Where in Hawaii are you and what type of wheeling conditions are there (mud, sand..)?

well i got a 94 and once i get everything all set up 850 860 combo i plan on using it for a DD and also every weekend for wheeling mostly mud and sand and some rock.... i live up in the country so i gotta drive up a 2 mile street that is pretty steep every day?? and i don't wanna re gear maybe in the future but not for a while if i can avoid it

how bad are the shift points on the transmission when u go up to 35?

I recently installed 315's on my wife's LX and the power loss wasn't really that noticeable. I keep the power button on on both 80's so that probably helps. 315's just look "normal" on an 80. I'm already saving up so I can lift and run 315's on my '97 because it just doesn't look right sitting next to the LX. This madness never ends.:D

I would do some searches on re-gearing to understand how satisfied people are with 35s and stock gearing. In sand and mud you may have a greater need for a re-gear than people who run 35s in the rocks.

Might be a dumb question:

Would having a supercharger alleviate issues if no re-gearing was done? Or is it really about shift points rather than power....?

If adding larger, heavier tires, the proper solution would be to regear, before supercharging.

But a supercharged and regeared Land Cruiser would be a LOT of fun.

I understand that :D

I was just wondering if one were already supercharged - or due to supercharging their credit card for example and could only do one or the other - would the supercharger eliminate, or delay, the need to re-gear? Or is it really more about shift points and optimizing torque curves...??

I went from a 33 to a 37 and I honesty dont feel much of a difference in power or shift points. If anything it feels like things are operating better. This engine really seems to like higher rpms. I am starting to think the stories I have heard that these trucks were designed around 35" tires is true.

I keep hearing that.....and does the OME 2.5 with 35's work w/o any rubbing?

i would not put 35's on with a 2.5 " lift unless you want to rub.

i have a 97 lx 450 with 4" sleed lift and now 35" km2's. they are noisier on the freeway. the car is slower going up hills and i find myself feeling that the shift points are simply off. off road 4wl is needed mush more which is annoying for the stuff i do where i may only go up a few steep things and then want to go 35mph on a fire road. i live on the top of a mtn ...3500 feet not so bad but yeah it is slower. i would think anyone would want to regear who drives any hills every day and doesn't want the engine screaming at 3500 but only going 45 up a hill. i used to drive a toyota motorhome and it was slow but i want my 4wd to feel a little stronger than my dinky toyota dolphin form the 80's.

at this point in think i would eventually get 35: all terrains and a compressor on board that is really good and just air down in mud or loose conditions..

having a fj80 with 35" km2s allowed me to drive up stuff easily without locking the diffs that before the car struggled to get up fully locked with 33" all terrains. this is my opinion at least for now.

then spare tire problem comes into question.

I have a OME 850/860 lift on my LX450 and 315's with no issues. I have had the truck all twisted up and only rubbed slightly on the top of the rear wheel well. I see not need to go any higher, there is no benefit.

The 315's on my truck made a very small difference in the way it gets up the mountain passes. I have no issues what so ever.

There's no need to regear with 35s for power sake. even a 3fe can handle them as long as you don't mind being chill on the freeway. Also, I would never run a bfg AT again. I've had two blowouts with them. They are not a good tire.
Have you considered a Nitto AT or maxxis bighorn for mud? I like both of those sets that I've had. Hankook Dynapros are awesome too for an AT.
