Given that the 200 and the Lexus have traditionally been pretty close have a look at this video which I found on YouTube. I reckon the 300 will be fairly close to this -

I would check out the Wikipedia articles to better understand the lineup, both LC and LX were refreshed for the 2016 model year.

The LX competes with trucks that have about 400 hp. The Cayenne Turbo or Range Rover SVR have less than 600..

The LX is not a performance SUV and never will be one, no matter how much power they give it -- the LX (like the LC) is a fat pig of a truck.

People shopping for a Range Rover SVR or Cayenne Turbo aren't cross-shopping an LX-570. They'll probably cross show an X5M, but not an LX570.

I don't see the need for a ton more power. The 5.7 is pretty much perfect in that department. Then again I'm sure the 100 series guys said the same thing about the 4.7 in '98

IMO, what it really needs is better fuel economy and range.

Yes. Same powerful engine with a 40+ gallon tank would be great.

Car & Driver is reporting the LC-F will be shown this October sporting a twin-turbo 4-liter making 600HP; while the GS-f will have a slightly detuned 550HP.

Lexus is trying to get their f-line cars to compete with Mercedes' AMG and BMW's M series. That makes sense for sport coupes and sport sedans.

Would be awesome, because the Lexus kills them on reliability. Would be great to actually catch them on the track rather than having to wait for them to break down in order to pass... :hillbilly:

Yes, Lexus does kill them on reliability. But Lexus has never really figured out fun-to-drive. And I can't stand the new spindle grill they are slapping on everything.

I've lusted after countless AMG and M models. But I've never lusted after any Lexus except, perhaps, the first generation LS400 (which was a revelation back in the day).

Maybe Toyota/Lexus will learn something from the extremely fun-to-drive Subaru BRZ that Toyota badges as the Toyota 86 now. It's underpowered, but is VERY fun to drive. And ya... Just adding power doesn't automatically mean fun...

OH... and I agree 100% on the spindle grill.

My theory about the growling spindle grills... A few years back, one of the Mazdas had a grill scoop that (especially when teamed with a white California lic. plate in front) literally looked like a goofy SMILE...with two top-front teeth if a plate was mounted--that looked like a gopher or cartoon rabbit. Suddenly everyone started angling their grills the opposite way to look like a growl rather than a goofy grin...

On my wishlist:

- Auto hold function
- Lighter, more powerful naturally aspirated V8
- Larger wheel wells (hey, I can wish, right?)

- The Pimp My Ride System (PMRS) will stay, but it could be a lot lighter and thinner.

"Auto hold function..."? What's that?

When you enable auto hold, when the vehicle comes to a stop, the vehicle will hold the brake for you so you don't have to hold your foot on the brake at stoplights (or anywhere else). You just accelerate and the vehicle automatically disengages the brake. It's a very good feature. It's on the BMW X5 and the Lexus LS 460 (called brake hold).

Mercedes has it as well.

I think if we're realistic here...The new 300 is gonna have another boring ass v8 making 425-450hp. This is toyota we're talking about. They don't innovate anything. They are always behind, like way behind. Reliable? Absolutely but engine tech wise? Behind. If they do any big change, it'll be for mpg like the Tacoma....If we're really lucky we might see a twin turbo v6.

We should have a diesel but Toyota doesn't really give a crap about the US market for the cruiser if we're honest. We get the leftovers.

Mercedes and BMW are bringing more and more diesels, capitalizing on the VW mess but again toyota. Behind. Just my opinion.

And thank goodness for that...or we wouldn't still have our body-on-frame Cruisers and 4Runners...since they would have "innovated" their way out of existence like most other brands...

In no way did I mean to dog the LC/LX, I own one and love it. I totally agree with you. It does what it does brillliantly, it's just not going to compete with those other suvs. Its really a different animal. It's just never going to be a vehicle where people are like "did you hear about that new crazy Toyota with xxxhp". That's what the Germans and gtr's are for.
