I stipped the threads on my 72 FJ40 project trying to get the filler plug out. Weighing options to have someone retap the threads of just replace entirely for a reasonably priced transfer case. TIA

I would think you should be able to fix this a couple of ways.I stipped the threads on my 72 FJ40 project trying to get the filler plug out. Weighing options to have someone retap the threads of just replace entirely for a reasonably priced transfer case. TIA
Thanks.. I am in the process of getting stuff to fix the threads.I would think you should be able to fix this a couple of ways.
Drill out threads and press in a friction fit insert.
Drill out threads and use a weld-in insert.
There may be a heli-coil like insert you can thread in and use an epoxy to secure/seal.
Just spitballing ideas i have not performed any of the above myself, but if its a good tcase, seems like a lot of work removing and reinstalling to fix a stripped drain hole
Thanks… I am in SC, but frequent Atlanta to see my in-laws. Might can arrange something.I have one in Marietta,Ga that someone else is interested in for a 73 FJ40. If it falls through I’ll let you know. The individual lives in Utah so it depends on the shipping price. I was asking $150 for it.
$100! That's a bargain. If you don’t know the history of the case, maybe you should consider just doing a rebuild using a good housing. There are plenty of those around. I can offer you one for $100. There’s probably a private party with no overhead that may offer you one for less.![]()

I think Mark is offering a bare case not a complete t/c.$100! That's a bargain.

What it looks like and includes…I have one that is missing the spud shaft in it. It had been installed with an AA spud shaft to adapt to an SM465. I was going to use it with a plate adapter but never did. I sold a fellow mud member the linkage. The rest of it is all there though. I am also in SC.
