you could make one out of thick leather....

I just read all 21 pages of this build... absolutely beautiful. Ya gots some skills!!

And one hell of a shop!!!

Got about 2.5 on the lpb tonight....some good, some not so good.

First thing I did this evening (so I wouldn't forget) is change the oil filter and dump in 8 quarts of 10-40. Several other misc. things, hooked up fuel lines and fuel filters, misc. wires, etc.. Installed the shifter back into the tranny, so I could shift into a gear when it started.....that is where I am having the problem.

Had the wife come out to give me a hand bleeding the clutch and can not get the clutch to bleed. I pulled the line at the clutch master and no fluid is coming out? Kinda screwed around with it for about a half an hour, but nothing is working. I might have to borrow my buddy's vacumm bleeder, but not sure if I can get my hands on that tomorrow or not?

In any event, figured I better try to end on a good note. Dumped in 5 gal. of fresh 91 octane, pulled the choke, cranked over for about 30 seconds..........we have ignition.....again. Only ran it for about 30 to 60 seconds, no coolant, but seemed to run and idle fine. I had a tractor muffler laying around at home, so before I started it I cut a 12" piece of galvanize stove pipe. I wrapped it up and used some 2 1/4" muffler clamps and clamped it onto the remaining pipe. Actually worked pretty good, not as quiet as it will be with a bigger muffler, but not bad. Better than no muffler, at least now when I get the rest of the body work done I can drive it onto a trailer and haul it to the muffler shop relitively quietly.

Well, hope to get the clutch bled out tomorrow and see if it can move....I know it will start now.

I know this is not what ya' want to hear, but unless there is some trash in the MC it has went south on ya.
In all the LC's I have dealt with well over 100 I have never had to do anything to the Clutch/slave system other than crack the bleeder, let it gravity bleed and a couple of pumps.

No, not what I want to hear, but I was thinking the same thing :frown: Probably dried out sitting there empty for a few months.

Still going to see if I can round up the vacumm bleeder tomorrow and pull the fluid through. If that doesn't work.......I'll get the new MC coming Friday.

Thanks, Matt

Looking really nice Matt man!

You should swing up this way for Thanksgiving tomorrow........and by the way, bring a clutch MC with you. :D

Quick afternoon update....

After screwing around this morning for over an hour with that clutch MC....shot.

But, I remembered I had the 79 FJ40 that I sacrificed for the lv out in the shed.....it had a working MC :) So, gut that one out, cleaned up and installed in the lbp. Bled out fine and drove it out and then I had another problem.......gas was leaking out of the bottom drain holes underneath the tank and on the floor.

I quickly pulled the seat out thinking I was going to pull the tank....then I realized if it was the tank leaking it should have leaked all night. After I cleaned everything up and had the seat out I fired it back up. It was leaking around the fuel return line on the side of the tank. I had cut the stock line lenthwise to get it off and didn't see it was cut when I put it back on. I suppose the 30 seconds it ran last night the fuel never made it that far back down the return line....this morning it did.

So fixed that, fired it back up fine.....few pics.

Kept going on the lpb this afternoon......after Thankgiving activities. About another 4 to 5 hours.

When I got back the lpb was still outside. I spent the next hour or 2 cleaning in the shop. It needed it and figured this was a good time since it was outside. Afer that I spent the majority of my time cleaning up the heater in the center. Really wasn't beat up, just dirty. Took it apart and blew the heater core out and cleaned up everything else inside and out. Installed it and spent a good hour hooking up all my coolant lines upto the radiator. I don't have any coolant in it yet, but should be good to go.

Took a few other pics.

The pic with the 2 black brackets and the tape measure.......what are they for? I know they came out of the cab somewhere since they were in my cab pile, but I can't figure it out?

The toolbag and tool pics. I think the 3 tools next to the bag are toyota for sure....I think? The others are not....wondering if any of the others are? If some die hard guy can speak up that would be great?

Also wondering if you guys think that tool bag will stand up in the washing machine. I'm sure it has 30 years of dirty on it, just wondering if I could throw it in with a load of jeans or something?

The vent tube pic. I spent a while cleaning up the one and I thought I would throw the other 3 in the dish washer.....I'l let you know how it turns out.

Not much if anything is going to get done for the next 3 to 4 days. Got to be at work tomorrow at 6 am and I'm sure I won't get out of there until 9 pm. Same schedule for Sat. and most of Sunday.......Holidays sales suck......

It's looking sharp:cheers: How soon are you going to start on the bed?

Might be a few months yet on the bed.....the front clip, hard top and doors are going to be first I think.

Thanks, Matt

Looking great Matt. I was out of town for two weeks and I'm amazed (as usual) with your progress. I'm surprised you're not going to make some custom seat covers to go with that Olive Green paint. That color is going to look great on the lpb. Keep it up! :bounce: :D

matt, I had 2 brackets left over also that I think were used with the seat belts. If I remember right they looked like that maybe where the retractors were bolted to the tub. I didn't end up using them

Got about 2.5 on the lpb tonight.

Finished installing the vent hoses after I ran them through the dishwasher. They came out pretty clean....took a pic of the dash......again.

Took all the parts off the front bib. After I got everything off I drilled out the spot welds on the bottom of the bib and took it apart.......look what I found?? Not that big of deal, not rusted through anywhere. Hit it with the blaster, prime it and weld it back up....should be fairly easy fix.

Took a few parts off the side aprons and the hood. Also took apart everything on the windshield frame except for the the glass. Might bring the frame in to the local glass guy and have him pop the glass out. The weatherstripping pretty much looks new, so thinking I will be using it again...didn't want to cut it up.

Gotta work all day tomorrow again. Hoping to maybe take a day off during the week and do a lot of blasting. Might even try to get that rear valance swapped out on the box, before it snows.

Matt,

Thank you for doing such a detailed job on this thread. Beautiful work, man. This thread is like having a picture manual of how to finish my project.

Early on, you had talked about some possible modifications to allow a little more breathing room in the driver's seat. Any thoughts as to what you might change?

BTW, what kind of camera are you using? Your pictures always look so clear and crisp. Especially the closeup shots.
