after a long search, i finally got an 80 series. 40th aniv, locking diffs and a nasty rod knock...... perfect. I picked up an 05 tundra drivetrain but needed some recommendations on which transmission to use. I have an a340e from the tundra, but the output flange is VERY different. I want to maintain my stock transfer case.

After a lot of searching, it seems that the 06 cruiser (a750f) transmission would be the best choice. I also noticed that the v8 4R and some tundras have an a750f transmission also. Are the output flanges the same configuration? will the stock 80 series t-case mate up with the a750f from any of these?

engine: 2uz-fe 4.7v8 vvti (05 tundra)
transmission: HELP
transfer: hf2av (97 fzj 80)

thanks for all your help.
cheers, jason

Did you see this thread over in Hardcore?

2UZ swap

might help.

No help on the trans, but how do you overcome the key-ignition-lockout feature?

X2 .. unless you have the key factory start cylinder from the donor truck . . along with the ECU ..

i would assume that to be correct. can anyone confirm if the transponder key computer (or key coil) needs to match dme / key..... or is it just a borg signal booster?

actually, im also concerned about the CAN system. Anyone want to comment on that? with no siganl imput for steering angle, yaw rate, data3, and skid control.... with this fault the system into limp?

this is my first toyota swap, but i do have "some" experience with bmw's. See link - Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket "Rose" is off to the dyno on saturday.

Back on topic:

a750f

does anyone know if there are differences between the 06-LC, 05-4R, ......or even the 08-FJ a750f's? will the stock 97 lc t-case splines match and bolt together? anyone????

Any help greatly appreciated. cheers, jason

I believe you will have to get the engine ECU from the A750 tranny vehicle because the transmission ecu is built into the engine ECU, will create electrical headaches for you.

Have you got the ECU yet?

I purchased an ECU specifically for a 2005-2006 tundra. These mostly did not come with a transponder key, traction or skid control.

That will solve a lot of your problems right there.

As for the trans, you really should get an A750, but I am sure you could use an A340 but the shift points could be weir, and you would have to put in a dummy solenoid or resistor for one of the outputs.

Hey rob -

Yes, I have a 7/04 tundra engine, engine harness (also a spare) and dme. Just picked up the sc oil pan / pickup. However, I do not have the secondary chassis harness that goes to the trans, e-pedal, transponder / key, (2) plugs into dme, ect. (i hope your right about the key/transponder.....dont have a wiring diagram for the05, but 06 shows a transponder. i havent dug too far into the 05 harness yet. )

Definately getting a a750f..... but, my question was on the applications. the a750f looks to come out of some 05+ 4runners, 03-06 landcruisers and even fj's. I just want to make sure the stock transfer bolts up to the a750f that i get. Any input?

thanks for the input !
cheers, jason

you have to get a cruiser A750F. The truck ones will not work. Sorry.

Good news is, you need the trans only. Your factory t-case will bolt right up.

If you have the VIN of the vehicle it came with, you can call the dealer and ask them if it had the anit-theft/traction/skid options. That is what I did. They even printed me out a spec sheet for that specific vehicle.

That is good news about the boltup. So, now you have to contend with the transmission talking to the '97 ECU, correct? Very interesting....sorry about the slight hijack.

When I was looking for this info about transponder .. what I get was the cilinder and ECU need to match but any key ( from a RAV ie ) can be " write " to work with your ECU .. I don't know which it's the process involved .. maybe Christo have more info .. if not I can offer a contact ..

couldnt find anything local. need to get one shipped in. before i do, just want to confirm...... so, i would assume an 03-07 LC a750f would do the trick? cheers, jason

i think i got the wrong trans. Should i be able to find an a750f with an 8 prong connector (with only 5 active pins) to fit the 05 tundra 2uz harness and computer?

below are pics of the '06 cruiser a750f and '05 tundra a340 electrical connectors. the '06 a750f is a 14pin connector. opening up the pan shows 5 or 6 solenoids being run by all 14 wires of different color. The '05 a340 is an 8pin (with 5 active pin) connector.

crossreferencing the a750f shows different non-interchangable parts for 03, 04-5/05 and 6/05-06.

any insight?

******UPDATE*******

just did some wire chasing. uuurrrggghh. it appears that I bought an 4/04 2uz..... not sure what it actually came from. it has tbw but no vvti. no wonder none of the wires matched the 05-06 tundra wiring diagram.

i do have an 05 tundra harness that does match up with the wiring diagram, fits the a750f transmission, and has vvti. back on the search for an engine. cheers, jason
