Hey everyone,
Recently picked up a lj78 and feel as if the car doesn’t have its full power. The only weird part is it doesn’t seem to be every time I drive it, but majority of the time it does feel sluggy.
I’ve read through some forums here and believe I may be on the right track in assuming it’s either a vacuum line or potentially a dodgy MAF sensor but wanted to hear some further opinions.
In neutral it seems to rev fine, it also seems to be not so bad once it’s at speed and within the turbo band. I can still get up to about 100km/h on the freeway.
When it’s bad, if I stop at the traffic lights even on a flat road, the only way I can gain traction, or enough traction to get up to speed is to manually put it into L, then 2, then into D. If I stay in drive rpm seem to hit a “roof” around 1,900-2,000rpms.
4WD low and high still work great. Idle has sometimes been a little funny just on the initial start, not really much smoke comes out the back unless it’s just been started there may be a small amount of smoke.
If I try to climb any type of hill I find myself losing that much speed that I sometimes have to pullover. The hills aren’t crazy but can sometimes be steep, but even coming into the hill at 100 I still don’t seem to have enough power to make it up.
My turbo light isn’t on 24/7, just when it’s up above 2k rpm (as it should be). Sounds to me like it’s spooling correctly and I don't see any apparent leaks or am able to hear any obvious hose leaks.
I don’t have turbo gauges so aren’t able to check to see if I have low boost although I don’t think that’s the problem.
Not entirely sure on my next steps, any input would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
-R
