Hi guys,

First post here. Have looked and looked but can't find my answer.
I have a 82 HJ60 with a diesel 2H in it.
It's overheating slightly - working on that - have bought a new radiator, just trying to find time to install it.
But, when it's hot, and I've been driving a while - highway for example and 80+km/h, as i slow down and engage the clutch to shift down gears (at a corner) the engine is stalling. Any idea why? It's only when the car is hot. And very specifically when I engage the clutch and slow down to shift down. For those few seconds I'm coasting with clutch in, and switching gears, that's when it cuts out.

New to cars and any help would be appreciated!

One probable cause is the Low Oil Pressure Cut off function implemented by the EDIC. To some degree you could confirm this by popping off the EDIC rod and seeing if the stalling stops.. Unfortunately, this doesnt really fix the problem. A thicker oil may help. The Low Oil Pressure Function can be disabled but thats up to you. The 2H has quite a low oil pressure at idle - this is normal. If your engine is tired and your pressure is dropping even lower under high temperature it may be going low enough to trigger this function.

Please note, with the EDIC rod off the engine won't shutdown with the ignition.. you'll have to stall it to stop it.

I'm not sure how much you know.. hit google with EDIC and 2H and do some reading.

Whereabouts in Australia are you?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply!
My brother thought it might be something to do with the EDIC (but isn't super knowledgeable about them).
That makes sense. Low oil pressure. I'll keep an eye on the gauge next time it happens.

I'm in the Southern Highlands,.somewhere between Sydney and Canberra
