The engine serial number is stamped into the block on a little flat area right by the starter motor....

1979 fj40 - help with engine number reference
Greetings all - just bought a fj40 - 79. Brand new to fj world so please bear with my inexperience. What i need help with is understanding if the engine is original to the frame??
Frame #299016 - which according to charts i've seen, i believe puts me in the 1st month of production. The 2F engine charts seem to stop in 1978?? Because i'm new to this...not sure what that engine number should tell me? The frame and engine #'s...are they supposed to match in any way?

No, that's kinda the point of this thread - to see where engine numbers fall relative to frame numbers. What's your engine number?

Just found this site. Can't beleive it. I've been hiding in my FJ40 for tpp long.
Frame = March 1973 FJ40 144776. Not sure where to find the 2F Engine Number / but I did spot what looked like 30304 stamped on the block on the drivers side. CORRECTION, I have a F155 engine - not a 2F. I know this car inside and out. My father purchased this FJ40 in July of 1973 from the first owner. This was the first car I learned how to dirve. I drove it all through High School and College. I had it redone 10 years ago and it hasn't seen the rain since. It has 109,000 org miles. This is really like a one owner FH40! Glad I found this site! Looking forward to reading and posting often. Will add a pic soon. Cheers!

Ok - got some numbers. So, I feel like the frame and engine are original to each other... So - 1979 fj 40 frame # 299016 and the 2f engine # 11411 61013

That 2F engine number is the part number of the engine casting. The engine serial number is stamped on the passenger side of the block right by the starter motor.
3 times a charm - thats for your patience. So for my 79 fj40 - frame number 299016 and engine number 2F 343599.

If you read my post from above (copied and pasted below) I think you'll find that it probably is original to the frame...according to SOR.com 2F 332845 was a 12/78 build...add just shy of 10,000 units/month and you get a 1/79 or 2/79 build date of your truck.
