I've used both and both work fine. Whatever is available at local parts store. Stock I believe is a metal crush gasket.

Saw this post as I was loooking up torque specs. Thought: “gee, that drain plug is a good upgrade, I should order one”. Then, “you know, maybe I already did..”

My 40 has the large style drain plug and would seep. I started using this plug seal / washer with a bonded rubber inner lip, from a company here in Denver. Their website is Rocket seal.com I can’t come up with the part# right now but I know the inner diameter is 1 inch. No sealer, wipe it off and install.

Did you find that part number by chance? I’m tired of messing with my leaky drain plug. The Dorman fiber gasket is not cutting it.

I'd be interested in the part number as well as my oil pan has the same affliction.

The company is Rocket seals. The part number is 600-0101-1 for 7.84 each. This is called a face seal. This particular one is for the big (24mm?) drain plug. I’ve reused them 3 times with no issues.
