Just picked up a 75 2f for $300 it has been disassembled already and been sitting awhile. Going to bring it back to life. The head is a 61010 casting. It’s missing a couple lifter and the cam doesn’t look good. Going to get new pistons, rings, bearings and whatever else I needs would like to go OEM but not sure what’s available. Machine shop will handle the normal machine shop stuff. Need to research. Will gladly take suggestions for parts and things to do and not to do. Will be researching lots.

Have your machine shop order your pistons and rings and bearings so you know everything will fit.
Balance the rotating assembly. Plug that oil galley hole in the head. Maybe put Chevy valves in the head. Use a Toyota head gasket.

I think that oil wasn't changed very often. I'm thinking every working surface will need help. I hope you have a good budget amount set aside - but it will be nice to have a new engine. I would do a pre-oiler system - 90% of the wear happens on start up. Break in oil twice then full synthetic.

Thanks for the tips, will be doing 1.0mm over Toyota pistons probable, npr or Hastings rings, not sure on bearings yet, don’t know about Chevy valves will have to read up on which ones? Plug the galley check. Balance assembly check. Toyota gasket set will get ordered with pistons. Need to research part numbers. Unless @OGBeno has a 2f rebuild list laying around in his brain?

It’s only money can’t take it with me! Is a pre oiler common on the 2f have not heard that before. Just getting into these old pigs so I got lots to learn. My machinist has done a handful of these so he knows the deal, make it as good as Mr T. Did and I’ll be happy.

I also picked up a 61030 casting head a while back is one better than the other?

Any idea how many miles are on the engine?
Check the oilpump gear backlash with a feeler, if it's too big (specs in the FSM) you can flip one of the gears and get a second life out of it.
You might want to replace the cam gear, depends.
New manifold studs and washers and nuts.
Delta cam is where you get your cam and lifters

Any big difference in head casting 61010 what came with it or 61030 tht I picked up a while ago. One better than the other?

I think you buy a pre-oiler. I'm going to make mine. A stainless can about 1.5 quarts. At the bottom is a cable pull valve that let oil into or out of the can, and connects to the oil line. To charge the first time - pull valve open and crank up the engine, let it run for like 2 minutes - release the valve to close. Check and top off your oil. Next time you are going to start your engine, pull open the valve, wait for like 1 minute so the pressurized oil in the can will charge the system -then start the engine. Keep valve open for like 2 minutes so the oil pump can push oil back into the can - close the valve.

Unknown miles, will check backlash, will check on cam gear. I’m gonna let my machine shop look it over before I order up parts. Not in a rush want to build a good engine that will last.

Are those welds that I see on the side of the oilpan?
Can your engine stand hold a 2F?

I posted a parts list in this thread:

pistons and heads more or less go together.

The oval shape head is for flat pistons and heads like 61040 - the more round shape 61030 are for domed pistons

Older heads like 61030 are less susceptible to cracking as I understand it

here is a link on casting numbers I used for my engine rebuild research on heads
