So, I finally got the motor running somewhat decent now idles well. Problem is, I can start it and let it run for 5 mins and shut it off. Gon to start it right away and it will barely turn over. Let it cool for 20-30 mins and it kicks over with no issue. Can't for the life of me figure it out . Any help is appreciated.

Starter motor solenoid is my bet.

Yep or load test the battery. Also use the booster cables a jump it from 40's battery directly to the starter. Grnd and 12v.

Brand new cables. It ts actually the brand new battery that's about 4 months old. Going to get another now.

New battery and all is bueno now. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Did you clean off the terminals and cables before installing the first time? I ask because I've heard that some manufactures apply protective coating to help prevent oxidation. If there was a coating in place than connection between the post and cable would be compromised.

The cables are from @Fourrunner. The battery tested bad. It was replaced with no issue.
