Does anybody know if there would be a problem fitting 285/75/16 on my '80 without a lift? how bad of a rub if any? i have the opportunity to buy bigger tires at a very low price but i'm wondering if i should save my money for a lift.

really?

Running that size on my DD with no lift...no problems, even when wheeling.

Yep, ran like that for 3 years. Some light wheeling in that time, never any rub.

nice...thanks guys

Goschbrandon was (is) running 285s with no lift. You will be fine

You WILL rub if you wheel it much though, as I am rubbing with 33's and OME 2.5" heavy lift.

285/75/16 BFG A/T's, stock height with 1"slee spacer in front and bilstien shocks. Its perfect for us. Light wheeling and mostly a DD.

what would you consider light wheelin? trails like slickrock, ca or deer valley, ca considered light? i think they're rated a 6 out 10.

Revo's that size.

I guess if you wheeled it really hard... they might rub some place, but basically... they just fill up the wheel wells better.

I havent been on any trails that have names that I am aware of(im new to wheeling). We ride dirt bikes up in the Piute mountains above dove springs and there are some trails up there that we play on. Also some stuff out behind the Ojai area by Ballinger canyon off of hwy 33.

Anza Borrego? Ever been there? Would that be considered light?

sorry, never heard of it. Sounds like I should hoop-up with a local cruiser club so I can learn some of the local trails.

just put 285/75/16 (33.1")Firestone Destinations MT... No problems! I have a stock height '96 Lx450 with way worn out springs and they don't rub at all, even in the rear I thought they may rub. I took it up trail the other day and had a rear bump stop on the axle with now problems. I went with this tire because I have had good luck with the AT version and the are a lot less expensive Goodyear MT/Rs The other reason is when I plan to lift my truck I am going to go all the way. Action Jackson is my bench mark. Then I will be looking a 37" or 40" So saving a few bucks made the wife happy:) At this time I am in the planning stages for my lift and collecting parts. Should be ready to start fall '08... Back to the tires. I am really happy with my new tires. They balanced well and are not to loud for a MT They are also a LT (65lbs max) so I can run the pressure up when I pull a trailer.

Runnin' mine with no problems.

Should i change gear ratios?

I wouldn't regear until going to 35's. It's not too bad on mine (BFG ATs in 285/75/16), and I spend a lot of time in the Colorado high country. If you're at lower altitude (California coast) I really see no reason to regear. If you don't lift, other problems may occur though :D (see running board)
