I am wavering between 285s and 265s. Functionally, they both have their advantages and disadvantages. I would like to see what the 265s look like. I am partial to BFG ATs and will be putting the OME lift on. Anyone have this setup? Comment? Pics? Thanks, Dan.

They look tiny. Get the 285s, I've seen both the 265s and 285s next to eachother, whoa do the 265s look like a baby tire.

Depends on, what are you looking for. Larger tires mean worse performance with a loaded car. I have MT/R 265/75R16 on 6.5" steel rims. I have this tire size, to be able to buy a new spare anywhere in Africa and middle east. Narrow rims also make it possible to drive with virtually empty tires (.5 bar). I am also able to put the tire back on the bed with the on-board compressor.

I see less advantages when having these tires on 8" rims. And even less if you will be driving around N America ;)

Here is my 100 next to the 80 with (I think) 38" tires:

If you will buy small tires, you are not gonna do it for good looks ;)

Any rubbing? I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Is anyone running the BFG's @ the stock size? All I seem to see is the 285's and up?

If so does anyone have a pic of them on their rig?

I ran 265/75/16 Kelly Springfield AWR all terrain tires (superceded now by......cant think) for the first 50000 miles approx, great tire and IIRC they have a bigger rolling diameter than the stock 275/70/16. NOTHING WRONG WITH 265/75/16. Buy the tire YOU WANT, not what somebody else thinks is COOL or suits them, get what you want and don't be conned! That said, I have 285 M/T Wranglers on now and I just want to get rid of them, probably a bad batch and out of round........whooop.......whooop......whooop down the road. I hope to find someone to listen to me and have them replaced. I am not talking about normal tire noise from A/T or M/T, I am talking out of round.

i got these coz 285/75/16s are technically not legal in my state of Victoria, although the local authority, VicRoads, won't give an opinion stating "legal reasons" which is a load of bollocks. Their PDFs citing the laws state that i am not allowed to increase the diameter of the wheel / tyre combo by more than 15mm greater than the maximum offered by the vehicle manufacturer.
cheers

Loud, how much louder where the BFG's than the Michellens? Was it just barely noticable or was their a huge difference?

i replied in my thread the other day when you asked in crains thread. Ya, its noticeable but nothing crazy. Not like riding in a wrangler with 35" M/Ts thats for sure! My friend says my truck makes an unnecessary amount of road noise when rolling in a multi-level parking lot, but I dont think its that bad. Some people didnt even notice the difference when riding in it compared to the LTX's.

285's, no question.

My friend has LTX's on his Suburban and they are quiet, very quiet. That said, the BFG's are a harder compound which = more noise. The same friend has the BFG's on his Yukon and they are considerably louder then the LTX's.

In most surveys that I have conducted, chicks dig dudes with Nittos.

I just out 285/75s on my wife's 100. She's happy with ride and handling.

A better pic of my 265/75 in route to do some skiing. My primary consideration was price. These cost me $650 installed at Costco near Denver and I assume do a little better on gas than the 285/75. I think they look fine.

Would 305/70/R16 BFG A/Ts fit on a stock 100 with stock wheels? They are the same overall diameter as the 285/75/R16s, but I worried that the extra width could cause some rubbing. Any thoughts?

Anyone? :meh:

265/75/16 bfg at's

Anyone that searches for tire sizes has probably come accross this thread. I wanted to add to this with a couple 265 pics. No they dont look big guys, but I do think they look just fine. If your intensions are keeping a fairly stock look with the ability to do minor trail work, and maybe adding a second set of wheels/tires down the road for trail use, which is my plan, I think they are a decent way to go.
