Very nice pics. Keep them coming.

Yeah, yeah, I'm hearing that a lot lately from a certain someone. :) I'll just run everything with the full body, instead for now. :)

Chris

Bring it on down, looks like we're doing another one for sure, maybe 2, if yours were third maybe it would be semi perfected by then?:wrench::meh:

Here's the video of the UTV's on Steel Bender yesterday:

Here's the LX450 on a little section of it, as well:

Make sure to watch them in 720HD.

Any updates? Where are the pics? I need my Moab fix!

Hey Jesse,

no pics for now. All work and no play till Sunday. After that me and my dad are planning to run behind the rocks, pritchett, and poison spider, gold bar rim, golden spike and possibly rusty nail.

Chris

Hey guys,

I headed out today to run Pritchett Canyon and all I can say is wow. We made every obstacle on the way up with no winching. On the way down I bent my tie rod dropping off one of the big rock faces. Then we managed to bend it back and get down to the last big obstacle on the way out and I had no steering. So we hooked up the winch and came down after nearly rolling it over because when I came off one of the big ledges my left front tire jerked hard to the left. I think I broke my front left axle then because when I disconnect my cdl switch my truck won't move. Plus when I do have the cdl on and the front locker on only the passenger front pulls. So, my question is do I have a broke front drivers side axle only or something else?

Also, what are the options for a beefier tie rod that I can buy? And, while I'm replacing this axle should I go with something heavier duty and if so what are my options? Thanks guys,

Chris

Quick/easy way to confirm the axle/birf broke instead of the cheap drive plate. Remove the wheel center cap, and the metal grease cup. With CDL unlocked, put it in gear and as you say the truck won't move, then see if the axle's splined tip is spinning in a stripped drive plate. If not, bummer but at least you know. If it's a bummer then a worry is if it's the birfield the broken parts can suddenly jam and cause steering prob or tire lockup. Just pull the entire spindle off by removing the upper/lower trunion bolts, and the little bolts on the felt/rubber/metal seal and the brake caliper and yank. Oh, you'll need to get the circlip off the axle tip to get the stub axle and broken birf parts out.

This saves you pulling the wheel bearings, spindle, seals and crap off. Make sense?

Chris, that's known as the camo method-writeup on pirate if you need it. Eric broke a birf last weekend again, removed the drive flange and drove it home.

So, if it's a Birf, is this what I need to buy: FJ-80 4340 CHROMOLY 4 PIECE SUPER SET - Longfield Super Axles

So, if my seals are leaking like crazy, which they are, what else do I need to buy and have the Moab shop install at the same time?

Doug, I'm not sure what all those things are on the axle, but I'm going to try to do this and figure out if it's something simple like that.

Wait till you guys see all the pics and vids from Pritchett...it's going to be awesome.

Yep, or just a stock birf to get you home and do it later. If you're going to have the front axle torn down, I would just do a full rebuild on the front axle with that many miles on it.

I would also get these from Longfield:

TOYOTA KNUCKLE LIFETIME WIPER SEALS - Longfield Super Axles

This from Marlin:

HD Inner Axle Seal, FJ80 | Marlin Crawler, Inc.

Get a knuckle rebuild kit with wheel bearings and just do it all while it's apart, with Longfields going in you should never have to take it apart for a very long time. Trail Gear and Marlin are usually the best places to get the knuckle rebuild kits, but I'm not sure if they sell those for an 80 series?

A couple of other things to do if they are made for an 80 series-again not sure?

Brake plate eliminator:

Toyota, Suzuki Samurai, and Jeep Off Road Parts

Rock ring felt protectors and heavier duty knuckle studs:

Toyota, Suzuki Samurai, and Jeep Off Road Parts

Again, this is mostly mini truck stuff, so I'm not sure about the 80's-they are different from all other cruisers and mini trucks b/c the birfs and axles are a lot bigger.

It add's up the $$ quick and the front axle rebuild is time consuming and very messy, but do it right once with all new parts and the right parts and it won't have to be done again. If you do it, set aside a whole weekend to get it done.

Might want to get another stock birf to get you home?

One last thing, may wanna consider the part time kit, I'm not sure what all it includes, but you don't have to use their $$ hubs, get some IFS min truck Aisin hubs and buy these to convert them for you to use:

TOYOTA INNER HUB GEAR - Longfield Super Axles

Don't use stock hub gears with the hubs! If you do, eventually you will blow the hub gear and strip the splines on the Longfields-Bobby doesn't warranty them in that case! If you use the chromo hub gears then he will.

Just ordered axles/birfs from Longfield overnighted to Moab 4x4. On hold with Marlin now for the axle rebuild kit with HD inner axle seals. I don't think the rest of that stuff will work for an 80, but I could be wrong.

Chris

Just ordered rebuild kit from Marlin, and he said I still need wheel bearings, so I've left a message for CruiserDan...

Chris

Big spenda!

Just don't ever add it up and you'll be ok.

The next thing you'll need is a good sawzall and cut off wheel!:flipoff2:

Great quality photos and I can't wait to watch the videos and view new pics!

But c'mon bro: Your In Moab! SMILE... :D

LOL...trust me...we had a fabulous time. We're rolling out as we speak...another 1800+ miles to go till we get home. Moab 4x4 got my front end back together with longfields, hd tie rod and drag link from slee, and new poly performance rear axles, as well. I'm hoping we should be good to go...
