The issues with the Tundra’s turbo engine was determined to be with the wastegate actuators, which they outsourced. Apparently they have since found a new manufacturer. To their credit Toyota seems to be covering the claims without question but some have complained about how long it’s taken.
Outside the more important requirement to make sure all maintenance like oil changes are done per schedule on Turbos, the real issue is the hassle required to repair / replace because of its location.
yes, i guess my issue is that turbos will need to be replaced at some point, unclear after how many hundreds of thousand miles. and I hear the repair, at least on the tundra, is a body off repair? seems very intensive and not able to be done in a home garage.
