2023 model year last... not sure how long they will build them

Some additional options and changes reportedly on Blackline editions for '23

Bumping this up and see if there's any more intel out there. From what I'm reading, it sounds like the new GX will be more off-road oriented and going back to a more aggressive boxy appearance. Intended to compete with the new Defender possibly.

I was just about to put money down on a '23 GX but wondering if I should wait until this fall when the new design is revealed. I never buy first year productions of vehicles but hopefully Toyota learned it's lessons from the Tundra and have the TT engine dialed in. If this new design is definitely less 'soccer-mom', I want to wait for sure. Although, I doubt resale will be bad on a '23 V8 GX either.

I like it ;)

Can't wait to rip around offroad in one!

I think it's pretty funky looking but I like it in black or white from what I've seen. Looks a lot like the 300 Series LC to me.

Unfortunately for me I bet there's no shot that "Overtrail" edition being shown is under $75k.

a tried and true v8, with no turbos and a tried/true 8 speed auto is cheaper, easier to work on, has less moving parts, and far more reliable in the long run.

the 10 speeds have been trouble.

Twin Turbo engines are more costly and more complex than a NA engine. I think you know this.

More torque to get to the mall quicker for 1 mpg gain? I guess thats a short term win?

I have an 07 LX470 and man GX550 got me tempted. Is it well built like LC quality?
Most likely. This new Lexus looks pretty good to me, but too rich for my blood.

Frame will be lighter than the 300 -- it is the same frame architecture, but lighter built. The interior quality will be cheaper in terms of materials and NVH than the 300. As for the reliability of the twin turbo V6, time will tell.

The GX550 is being built in the same Japan plant as the LC300, so I expect top notch quality. My 06 LX470 is running strong, so not in any hurry to get a new SUV, but I'll probably get a GX550 (or LC Prado version) in a few years as it hits most of the right points for me. I only wish it had a split tailgate (but glad they got rid of the barn door) .

Thought this tidbit interesting.

As expressed at the Tokyo Outdoor Show earlier this year, Lexus has introduced the first-ever “Overtrail Project,” an initiative that intends to inspire customers around the world to explore nature through refined adventures. The goal is to include more opportunities for Lexus customers in the future, including potential products, accessories, gear and experiences. The all-new Overtrail grade falls under the umbrella of this initiative.

I'm partial to it and think it's a fantastic move

Full disclosure, we've been fortunate to work with Lexus on the GX/LX platform including some of the GX(s) they've used for OVERTRAIL

I am definitely interested in this truck. I would keep it pretty much stock and looks like it will be able to do 99% of what I would need it to do.

my only issue:
Id like it to be the last car I every buy. I am very skeptical of the twin turbo v6, Has there ever been TT engines that have lasted 500k-1million miles? 4.7 V8 tundras, LC have. and I hear the replacement for these at least in the tundras is very difficult. anyone have some input on the reliability of these TT engines?

I think it is a little early to know about the long-term reliability of Toyota's V6 twin-turbo engine. I think that the reliability of other twin-turbo engines is not likely to be informative as to the reliability of this particular engine.

The issues with the Tundra’s turbo engine was determined to be with the wastegate actuators, which they outsourced. Apparently they have since found a new manufacturer. To their credit Toyota seems to be covering the claims without question but some have complained about how long it’s taken.

Outside the more important requirement to make sure all maintenance like oil changes are done per schedule on Turbos, the real issue is the hassle required to repair / replace because of its location.
