2024 GX/Prado Release and Discussion

This picture of the GX puts into very clear perspective all the highly contrasted black plastic trim and plastic floorboards being used on this high end vehicle, and on the new LC250 as well. Really? Is this how Toyota plans on competing with Bronco: with a profligate use of cheap looking plastic? Have I missed something or is this a big trend in the States? Do you think there will be LC trims that do not use this plastic? I know the people from Toyota will say that it is wonderful and amazing, but do you rank and file folks like it? Is there anyone else here that thinks it looks second rate?

Why? What do you miss about it?

Mainly the open air experience it provided. When the weather is nice I would routinely drop all of the windows and open the sunroof on mine and just enjoyed the vibe. Compared to a 200 Series the roll down window is also easier to access for quick grab/drop and go scenarios although a pop up glass would probably be slightly better for that. If you ever needed to haul something slightly long you could roll the window down and have a sort of enclosed bed setup. I don’t have a dog but I hear it’s a nice feature for them to.

I am trying to think exactly how far down the list of important truck features Trim is for me.

I’m kind of lukewarm on the 550 because of things like this. It seems to carry over to the interior as well. I have to see one in person and have myself a test drive before I form an opinion.

You know i don't mind it
If it gets scratched you don't have to worry about repainting it.

They added more black plastic on some of the 300s and i already scraped it offroad.
i can't imagine how this would look if it was painted like the 200. Right now I barely notice it especially when the rig is clean.

I can also replace this part whenever separately from the actual painted bumper skin and never worry about painting it.

And what stuns me looking from another perspective, is that you guys can still buy a 2023 4Runner with a stunning body design, no plastic, a superb roll down back window, steadfast reliability, and a good powertrain if you don’t need a Formula 1 engine? And for a lot less money than these plastic fantastic Toys!

This 4Runner flat out looks like a Ferrari or a Lambo compared to that GX Tonka Toy. It’s stunning. Maybe you guys are so used to seeing the 4Runner that you can’t see it with fresh eyes, you can’t see it for what it is.

TRD Pro is what, $55k? So not a lot less money. Lower trim 4Runners are not nearly as good looking. I refuse to own a Toyota SUV with the Sombrero logo. That fog light looks like it is from a Tonka toy. Hood scoop looks cool but I can't remember if it is fake like on many Toyotas. I am also no fan of the cosmetic roof rack that I would just have to rip off to put a Prinsu or Front Runner up there. I like 4Runners, but they are far from perfect and can be improved.

And for the record I think the GX550 looks way better than that TRD-Pro.

Scoop is indeed fake. While cool looking, it has an annoying habit of blinding you when are heading into the sun

To be honest, I really hope not to buy another truck for 5-10 years. But when I do I may very well buy the next 4Runner if it is similar to the Tacoma. I think I could live with the 4cyl.

Driving with the rear window open is generally a bad idea. Station wagon effect pulls exhaust fumes into the cabin.

Personally, I leave the windows rolled up and turn on the A/C. It's quieter that way. In the 13 years I owned my 4Runner, I never drove with the rear window down.

Styling is subjective. I've never cared for the styling of the 5th gen.

I read on another forum that the 6 cylinder is pretty much confirmed for the US Market so that's good news.

I am jealous ngl.
I feel alot of people in the Middle East will be turned off by the fact our LC250 is only gonna be a 4cyl. They are barely coming to terms witn the fact the v8 is no longer offered on the 300, the 4cyl wjll definitely be a hard pill to swallow around here, especially on a vehicle that is pretty much the size of a 300.


I know the 300 is offered with the 409p twin 6 and the amazing 3.3 diesel twin 6 but can you imagine
trying to convince people who own 5.7 200s and maybe don't like the 300 styling to get a 4cyl 250 lol.

It will be interesting to compare actual cabin size of lc250 vs lc300.
I know the 250 with those mirrors is technically bigger than the 300 width wise.

If interior capacity is similar give or take +/- a small amount that's pretty good but if its not much vs 150 then it's gonna feel like size wasted by just fenders/body trim.


The sad reality is, if the 250 is already as big as the 300. The 400 whenever it comes is probably gonna grow to be y62 Patrol/Y63 Patrol size and I personally wouldn't want that because I love the lc300 size.

The lc300 kind of feels like a modern day 80 series (not style wise).

It skipped the tradition or lc100/lc200 of being less capable than its predecssors and bigger and bulkier to continuing the tradition of the lc80 which is what I love about it and they did mention they benchmarked the lc80 during the debut for offroad ability.

The 250 will easily handle better than the 100/200
If 300 is anything to go by.

I preferred driving 100 over 200
But prefer driving 300 over all. Ask the guys here who owns lx600s they will tell you how good they are.

FWIW, I measured mirror to mirror on both my 200 and 300 and they were both right at 87". The interior of the 300 was 1" smaller when measured from both front and back armrest to armrest on the 300 vs the 200.

If the GX/250 is 83" mirror to mirror, that is 4" narrower than the 200/300.

I've been digging around to see if I could find any other early information, I came across one conversation on the Bronco forum claiming someone with first hand knowledge said it will be the TTV6. I can't corroborate the information, but thought it was interesting to pass on, everyone has to judge this one for themselves.

My Plano Source confirmed that this was a bad tip, no TTV6 for the LC.
