As for the side glass design, I saw this in the 70 series book by Takeshi Namba and I can definitely see the design influence.

I don't want to go too off topic but in that book it mentions that at one point they did consider ending the 70 series after 2006 and going forward with a improved 105 platform/body style.
Can you imagine that? I would have loved that.

Let's not forget Toyota's March 16th tease, posting their 2000 Retro Land Cruiser design concept, what message were they sending us?

I suspect they plan to offer the Retro 45 to the US market :D

(Love that Cruiser, fun to drive too!)

That was an incredibly good looking rig. It would create a sensation if they release something along these lines. Let's just say even the Kardashians will drive that thing. :-)

Look closely at that windshield to roof connection. Especially between the red arrows along that joint. It's not normal. Something wonky is going on there. It's not the smooth seem like every other current Toyota and Lexus SUV has at the top of the glass. Top comes off? Or a panel that is removeable?

The teaser pic looks better than anticipated, a lot of 70 Series or early Prado squareness instead of the 80/100/200 roundness.

I think Toyota has figured out the Overland popularity and the owners obsession with bolt on options and will create a large catalog of accessories from Lexus/Toyota (with ARB etc. partners) and roof seams etc. have been designed to more easily accommodate.

To get a better idea check out the Trailhunter edition Tacoma, I think that is where the Bronco and Jeep Competitor statement is targeted, not you will have a removable top, you will just will have an endless opportunity to customize your truck with gadgets such as roof racks, molle panels, an abundance of unnecessary lighting, and more!

Its looking good,

The front end/bumper doesn't undermine the offroad capabilities engineered into the platform. I think if it arrives with the Tundra's TTV6, and set of lockers, I would be an early adopter.

Considering everything is a platform build these days, it would really make sense to essentially make the 4R/GX/LC modular and as long as it has a solid power plant and lockers, everything else can be bolted on.

The GX seems far more interesting than the LX.

I’m first on the list at my local dealer. Hoping the reveal pays off and I can move forward.

I’ve absolutely loved our new Defender, but it’s starting to show its true LR colors already with even one year Factory warranty left. Kind of sad because I really wanted to keep it long term.

I was really impressed with the new Tacoma so I am feeling pretty good about Toyota making good choices with the Land Cruiser. Now if they could only actually get more vehicles to the market. My next car will either be a year two Trailhunter Tacoma or a year two new Land Cruiser. I just have zero desire to go through the hunting expedition that I endured in 2022 (for a Tacoma) that led to me giving up and buying my LX.

The "farkle" is super profitable and popular. OEMs have figured out how to cash in on that market. I wish they'd include some stuff from other markets like OEM winch mounts and prewired harnesses. In general the OEM Toyota stuff has been pretty decent with maybe the exception of the aluminum TRD Pro skid plate I had - it lasted for only one trip to play in the rocks.

It still looks odd where that roof panel meets the window. I think there's something unusual about it. Toyota would normally not have visible weld or metal seams that you can see like there are in that photo. Not the trim strip for mounting, but on the main roof panel you can see the lines on both sides about 2 inches in from the channel where the roof mounts are. Looks out of place. Maybe it's just a prototype. I think it's VERY unlikely to see a removeable roof in any form in a Lexus SUV. But it could be the front of a panoramic roof panel that tilts up or something like that that just looks funny in the photo.

Also, I think I'm going to move this thread to the GX section as that's what we are dealing with shortly, in all reality.

With the official move to the GX forum, the 2024 LC can now be dubbed…

The Baby Land Cruiser

Yes highly profitable!!!

It will be interesting to see it in the metal, I think the odd seam is just Toyotas current manufacturing and design, when you look closely at the new Tacoma and even the Tundra there is a seam that reaches the front windshield.

There is a pay gate at the autonews site. :-(

Isn't it time we create a new master group for the "250-Series Cruisers"?

You have to pay for real information from real sources….

😂😂

Regarding another section, that’s an @woody deal.

I think for now it fits fine in the GX world and not in the 300 section.

The Baby Land Cruiser
The new prado based land cruiser would be as big as 80 series and came with 9.5" rear diff and at least 8" front diff.

By your definition this would means 80 series is baby land cruiser too😁😁
