The next gen 4runner is the really interesting unknown at this point. Toyota keeps making it bigger while keeping the LC the same. They've been on a collision course for the last few generations. If the 4R gets any bigger and shares the platform of the LC 300 they'll have to be really similar. Toyota could just take a gxl trim LC300 put some 4R cosmetics on it and a turbo 4 hybrid under the hood and have the next 4R. I'm guessing that's gotta be pretty close to the formula.

The "other LC for North America" or something.

Am I missing something with this electric motor? It is my understanding it is an assist motor and the main engine is always on. The electric never runs on its own which is where you would see a decent boost on mileage. Like on Prius Hybrid.

This offers really nothing other than a little more torque to increase 0-60 times.

Ok so answering my own question based on The Drive article. It is possible for the electric motor to run on its own. But at 48hp and 100ftlb, that is not going to happen often. It is also not user selectable. So basically it is only good for low-end torque to boost off the line performance.

So the only functional difference between a SR5 TRD off road and a trd pro is a skid plate and shocks? I’m guessing it will be a 15-20k difference.

Does the new Tundra/Sequoia have start/stop technology? Seems like everything does these days. If that electric assist helps like the RAM with the super annoying start/stop technology to get the vehicle jumping off the line and the engine restarted, then sign me up. Prior to COVID I traveled for work and the start/stop on my rental cars was the most annoying thing ever, and having to turn it off every time I got in the car pushed it over the edge.

It's less than I expected. I assume that's 2wd? So $76k for 4x4. I looked up the old Sequoia vs tundra and it was a $17k difference. So that would put the 4x4 Sequoia capstone at $93k. Lower then my guess by a little bit.

Mpg is pretty disappointing to me. I think the hybrid will be pretty low volume seller in the tundra. 1-2mpg for $3500? And it doesn't really do anything for towing because the battery is too small for any sustained power output. No help on long grades. Just faster 0-60 times. I was expecting more like 25mpg. Tundra is a 2015 update that's 7-8 years late.

Edit: looks like capstone is 4x4 only. So the translation to Sequoia would be $90.5k. plus $1,600 "destination fee". Feels more and more like a true domestic!

Toyota sells a ton of cars but honestly IMO how they handle the US market is somewhat odd. Especially how they handled the LC and LX badges, Just seemed odd to compete a mid tier LC with leather seats against a high tier LX for the same price.

In regard to the hyrbrid thing, I am not sure what they are going for, GM is getting 25-30 mpg's with the small diesels, They are also getting over 20's MPG out of their large diesels in their HD's, so 20 mpg's out of gas hybrid is not exactly interesting. Now, if their new engine is as bullet proof as previous engines, I would be Ok with that.

At this point, I am going to try and pick a new Sequoia up this fall, It check's alot of boxes for me, i like that it has room for 4 Adults and a decent amount of gear. I like that it has a rear locker, I like how it looks and it appears to be able to run 35's with little effort.

Capstone Tundra = $73,530 +
TRD Pro Tundra = $63,380 +

So figure the Sequoia will be close to those numbers ...

I have a TRD Pro Tundra on order and they're telling me it will probably be $70-75k...
Probably a nice market adjustment ... Horrible time to purchase a vehicle ...

There will be a time again when we can get under MSRP - maybe 2 year unfortunately

Anyone try the Costco auto buying program? I went on Costco’s website and it’s still up and running but wondering if dealerships are honoring prices

Yeah. Hybrid performance isn't good. GM did better in its sierra hybrid 1O years ago. The 6.0/hybrid got better mpg than the new tundra. And it had very similar power numbers. Toyota's engineers were once the pros at hybrid tech. I honestly think the result is a worse vehicle overall. The extra weight and loss of storage isn't worth the 1mpg improvement and half second 0-60 even if it were free. I'd rather not have it. Especially for the $3500 upgrade it adds on the tundra.

We might end up with one, but I'm not sure after the mpg numbers. I liked the initial design choices. But the mpg is looking like a deal breaker at this point. My wife wants something at least reasonably efficient as her daily. I don't think 20mpg is good enough. Not when it's more expensive than a Rivian.

In Utah you'll get no offers. So the website works, but there are no results. At least that was my experience trying it recently.

Sequoia has typically been $17,000 more than tundra for the same trim level. You can do the math on whatever trim you're thinking about

Don’t know.

But NOT having it was a major reason I bought my Sequoia over Tahoe/suburban. I hate that crap.
