I had my GX in at the dealer for an oil change yesterday and I had the guys peek in their Techstream and they weren't able to find the tap-to-pass function on my '22.

Disappointed I was. Apparently it's a pretty controversial feature with Lexus buyers. People either love it or hate it. If only there was a way to enable/disable it through the cluster or infotainment system like every other manufacturer. 🙄

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to have it on the Cruiser and GX but it isn't the end of the world. I've had that feature on my domestic trucks for some time now so it's a little odd that it's missing from these mid-high-end Toyota/Lexus products.

While I have been looking at the Blackline trim, I am noticing that the Premium/Premium+ trims are cheaper than the Blackline, at least MSRP-wise. That doesn't seem to make sense to me. Am I missing something here? The Blackline has color matched door handles and the black rims along with the surround camera. But you can't get the better sound system. Are there other differences I am missing?

I left the dealer a little fussy claiming that I'll rewire the whole damn car if I have to. I probably won't go that far but this is definitely not the last time I'll be looking into this.
I cannot fathom why anyone would hate that feature. You don't even have to use it. Don't like it don't use it? It isn't like the forced safety junk that you cannot turn off.

There has been a 3 flash mod for 10-19 models for years. This did bypass aspects of the trailer wiring IIRC. That being said I believe the flash functions got built into the cluster display and or associated ECU from '20+.

The relay that took the spot of the old flasher is now just a relay for the trailer lights. I was able to confirm that on my own car. At this point I'd need a full vehicle schematic to try anything with the SmartTap. Otherwise it's up to some software flashing.

Unlike my Mazda, there's not a large crowd of IT dudes that own these. So many IT guys own Mazda3's that I could basically do anything I wanted to my Miata's infotainment system thanks to tweaks and workarounds that they came up with. I had Android Auto on my Miata three years before Mazda implemented it on new cars (and was generous enough to make retrofit kits for older ones). Over WiFi I can remote in to my car's infotainment system and have root access to change anything. Perks of having a community that views this sort of stuff as a passion project that they share for free.

I haven't seen any FSMs past 2021.... either wait for someone to post one or subscription to TIS

The door to root level vehicle access is quickly closing IMO

I only have full body wiring diagrams for 10-14... actually picked up last year they put it in print as wiring diagrams of Eurasian models in FSMs posted to this site are not 100% correct for North American models.

I may get the 2-day license and poke around. That Mongoose adapter being $500 is on one hand silly but nowhere near as bad as the J1939 adapters I'm used to using.
