Hey Everyone - First post on here, hopefully I am in the right spot. Wanted to get thoughts on whether to purchase a 2021 LC 200 or the new Lexus LX600. I am in the market and trying to decide if I want to wait for the right LX to come through my local dealer or go ahead with a LC? At the end of the day, all I want is a reliable vehicle I can have for the next 20 years - I primarily haul family and gear many weekends across the state, drive fire and forest service roads, go skiing, and take an occasional off road trip from time to time. Just interested to hear people's thoughts on the new rig vs the 200 series. Both will be a step up from my 04 LC which I will be trading in.
Thanks.

Toyota (or at least their subsidiaries) are devoted to legacy support in some capacity.
They aren't blind to enthusiasts.
This is made evident from the GR Heritage Part Project.
It's limited, but the fact that they are offering NEW A70, A80, AE86 and (bizarrely) Toyota 2000GT parts is super cool.
Thanks for all the input - I have decided to go with a Cruiser. Now I am trying to determine between:
Option 1 - 2021 base with 3k miles that is a Toyota CPO
Option 2 - 2021 3rd row heritage with 13,500 miles an ICON stage 6 series 3 lift, ARB on-board compressor, Prinsu roof rack, 12.5 gallon auxillary tank, redarc tow pro elite brake controller, and nitto ridge grappler tires. The heritage is roughly $16,000 more after tax. Test driving both tomorrow.

which option would you choose?

@scanavera all depends on what you want to do with it. A modded Heritage edition sounds like the wrong thing to do but that's just me--it's just badges and trinkets and the third row delete was unique until the final year. However, if those mods are to your liking and well done [which they sound like] then if you can afford it, punt for the one you like

Hi everyone - Just circling back. Thanks for all the input, I ended up buying the 2021 base and am super excited to get into a new cruiser. I won't do much to the rig right away, except I do need to replace those wheels and tires!

What do you all recommend for sizing? I had Duratrac's on my 04 LC and will probably do the same (though I am open to BFGs or Nittos or others, but did like the look and balance of on and off road performance of the Duratrac). I do a lot of driving in the winter and will spend considerable time on snow and ice, so with that in mind, what do you recommend?

Appreciate your thoughts.

Thoughts…200 series section

My closest Lexus dealer in central Phoenix told me they have a LX600 wait list of over 20 deposits and have no idea how many, which models or colors will be allocated to them. He said there probably will be many deposits refunded before the end of the calendar year to those who will buy another brand. The parts shortages in Japan will affect LX600 production as it has on the LC6l300 models. They hope to get their first one in by early March.
They just put a white 2021 LX570 on the showroom floor Monday . He said it will be sold by the weekend.

Hey guys,
Lurker for a while, have appreciated the high quality content here for a good while.

Have had Toyota/lexus products for most of my life, keeps the rest of it. Current fleet is a 3rd gen Tacoma on 33's with lots of dodads, a stock 2006 LC with 167k miles and a stock 2019 GX460.

Just placed a deposit last week for an LX600 premium (want the 3rd row and mark levinson sound system) after being appalled at the current LC200 market. Have less than 10k miles on 2018-2021 selling for over $100k. I'll gladly jump in a new LX600 for $95k. Salesman tells me I'm #21 in line, with the first one scheduled for delivery in early March, expects one for me to roll into the dealership mid-summer.

I’m not even mad that the Toyota 300 won’t be sold in the US. Every review I’ve seen (overseas channels), the LX600 is a far better vehicle, way better build interior, way better ride quality. Same frame/drivetrain so it’s a win/win. The 300 GR edition is cool but I don’t see that as being a hot seller in the US, most people they buy a new car for real offroad probably get a JL Wrangler anyways, Land Cruiser for status and comfort.

Umm… what? I can tell you 100%, I didn’t buy my LC for status. 🤣It’s also not the most comfortable suv either. You literally described the Range Rover. I’ve taken my 200’s on several off-road adventures. I am sure not going to trust a Wrangler to not break on me, another reason I keep buying 200’s.

Bro I said majority. You’re a minority when it comes to offroading a 200. Trust me. Go to any offroad park and count how many Wranglers you see vs a land cruiser, especially a 200. It’s a 100:1 ratio and probably much higher. Most people buy them for reliability and size.

Can’t disagree there. We have a huge offroad park called Windrock nearby and it’s majority modded Jeep and atvs. Not a great place for a 200 so long as you keep it on the greens and blues, otherwise it damage central if you’re not running 35” min. tires

If you’re going to keep it 20 years I’d want something designed right now not 2008 like the last generation LC. Plus you have over 10 years of crash safety advances, things they learned from the 200 series, technology etc

I mistakenly thought the first post was page 2 congrats to OP

Tell me where the “10 years of crash safety” advances are between the Toyota safety sense in a 2021 and a 2022? As I recall, it’s a minor generational improvement.

Both the 200 and 300 received 5 star ratings.

The 200 is time tested
The 300 is not

While the front face of the 300 looks more modern, the rear end is missing a tailgate which is a major fail in my book.
My choice would be the 200

I can see how it seems that way but safety sense was actually built into the 2022 not retrofitted later. Having a radar cruise control that can handle stop and go traffic is not “minor”. No 200 could do that.

5 stars in 2008 and 5 stars in 2022 are vastly different things.

Actually, the 21 LX570 can do stop and go.

I disagree on your evaluation of 5 stars. It appears the only crash test they really improved in was small overlap based on the size of the 22+ front body mounts. Seems they’re designed to prevent front wheel cabin intrusion.

There are no more airbags or other active safety features on the 300 etc indicating they felt the 200s were sufficient.
