Hey Everyone - First post on here, hopefully I am in the right spot. Wanted to get thoughts on whether to purchase a 2021 LC 200 or the new Lexus LX600. I am in the market and trying to decide if I want to wait for the right LX to come through my local dealer or go ahead with a LC? At the end of the day, all I want is a reliable vehicle I can have for the next 20 years - I primarily haul family and gear many weekends across the state, drive fire and forest service roads, go skiing, and take an occasional off road trip from time to time. Just interested to hear people's thoughts on the new rig vs the 200 series. Both will be a step up from my 04 LC which I will be trading in.
Thanks.

I’m a diehard Land Cruiser badge fanboy so my personal choice is obvious.

Also the 200 has had 14 years of refinement whereas the 600 is right out of the womb. New species.

The 200 is a proven vehicle and whatever issues it has are well known.
The 600 is an unknown.

Getting a 600 now will reward you with the maximum number of years in future parts support Whereas the ‘21 200 is the end of an era. 15 years from now (when you’ll definitely be needing parts) many parts for the 200 will have been discontinued by Toyota but will still be available for the 600.

While both vehicles are out of my price range and thus I won’t be buying either of them, I still play the mental ‘if I could’ game.

When I play that game,….. The 2021 LC 200 wins every time without hesitation and zero regret.
But that’s just me. Others like what the 600 offers more.

I would want to wait a bit and see if there are any issues with this all new LX. As stated above, very few issues in the ‘old’ version and what few issues there are, are known.

Long term reliability of the turbo v6 would be a question. Need more rigs on the road to see what issues come up.

The V35 has been around (in a similar, not exact, form) for five years now. So far so good.

I just don’t like the risk of first year models. Toyota is good, but still want to wait and see if there are any major issues.

Plus pricing is insane right now with the markups. No reason for me to get one right away. Patience grasshopper lol.

Thanks everyone. I would rather have a Land Cruiser than the Lexus version too - just trying to work through pros and cons so good to get perspective. It is interesting that the new LX's may actually be cheaper than the local Land Cruiser market. Who knows after all the dealer and market adjustments, however.

Regarding first year models - I've had a first year early VIN 100 and 2 first year early VIN 200s, and all 3 were/are flawless. I would absolutely buy a first year Land Cruiser or Lexus counterpart. Availability for a new 200 or a new 300 of any variety would be more concerning to me than reliability.

This. Labels be damned.

Yeah, I saw that - that is a good looking rig. I wonder what the cost of mods for something similar would run. Out of my budget to be sure.

The mods weren't all that extensive. Just some skid plates, fender guards, splash guards, wheel and tires. The vehicle is a separate story.

Toyota's still making the LC79, so it's possible that the 200 will still receive support for a looooooong time.

What are you basing this on? My LC is 20 years old and there are little to no parts that I can't get from Toyota or equivalent.

15 years after the last FJ60 rolled off the line - LOTS of parts no longer were available from Toyota. If I had known they were going to pull the rug out from under us, I would have hoarded parts sooner. Major disappointment.
But granted, back in the 80’s, Toyota was legally only allowed to sell a maximum 6800 land cruisers in the USA/year due to some import tax rule about four door station wagons.
Since the annual sales volume for the USA back then was so tiny, that fact may have played a part in future parts availability.

If you don't need the back row, Heritage edition all day long. Those will eventually be collectors items even if you use them since the LC is going away for a while if not for good in the States. I needed three usable rows and luggage space with 3 little people so I went with a Sequoia TRD Pro but I was severely tempted by the Land Cruiser as I plan on not getting another every day vehicle for at least 10 - 15 years and give this rig to one of the kids eventually.

No question in my book but I also don't care about cutting edge technology. In fact, I prefer analog gauges, tactile fan controls, and only really care about heated seats, decent headlights and bluetooth. The old school V8 is why I made the switch now. Gas mileage sucks, reliability is superb.

Check out the discontinued OEM parts thread on the 80 series.

I think we're nearing the end of parts production for 100 series parts as well.

I'm an OEM parts snob, but will use aftermarket when that's the only option.

Parts that don’t fail don’t sell. Parts that don’t sell get the axe.

Radiators and charcoal canisters are among many of the discontinued parts for the 80.
