Wrong. Toyota actually included that coverage in the stock ECU…which is what the Harrop evaluation demonstrated. Why? Density altitude. It’s a performance factor pilots think about a lot, usually on the other end of the scale (high temp, high altitude reducing performance).The difference is Toyota is aware we don’t need the ability to drive our vehicles at 7000ft below sea level.
It’s not uncommon to see density altitudes of 3000 feet below sea level in colder low altitude regions, and I believe that 5000 feet below sea level has been seen in Alaska.
That is why the margin is there. Harrop exploits it.
The corollary is of course that if you live at sea level and try a full throttle drag run on a -40 degree day when the atmospheric pressure is extremely high…you might run out of margin.
