I'm not quite ready for the Dissent Offroad bumper w/ swingouts (very spendy), but I am looking for options to carry some jerry cans and other items that I don't want in the cabin. I guess a roof rack is the way to go for extra fuel carry etc right? I'm curious about the go to roof rack? What models should I look for? Included here is an obligatory pic of my 2018 LX.

Adding a rack properly on a face lift LX is labor intensive. (You have to drop the headliner).

Gamiviti makes nice racks.

Check out this thread for a better understanding of what you’re in for. You’ll want to order the brackets and spare clips ahead of time.

Hitch tray all the way for gas,…. I use one when I travel up above the arctic circle on the Dalton. 15 gallons of gas and a Plano with fire wood.

Here is my set up. This was on the back of my camper trailer on the way up 3 weeks ago. Just north of Fairbanks (AK) I park the camper and swap the rear tray to the back of my LX.

Wow, that roof rack install thread has me second guessing a rack. I had no idea it would be such a PITA.

Looks like you have the factory rails...add a set of Yak bars and a basket. Much cheaper and easier, with LOTS of optional accessories...and easily removable for times it's not needed. Just my $0.02.

Yak bars? Are you talking about a Yakima product of some kind?

Yes - Yakima crossbars (or Thule if you prefer)...could probably fit the basket (and various sports racks) to the factory crossbars now that many of them use a strap that cinches down to accommodate the different shapes of bars.

Carrying liquid on the roof sucks. It's very heavy, tough to tie down, adds wind resistance/noise, and if it's fuel and spills, could theoretically damage your paint, too.

Hitch rack all the way. Couple it with a swing-away adapter and you'll have full, convenient access to the cargo area, too.

@TeCKis300 has a nice, custom setup. If he shares photos again, see if you can replicate it.

For a roof rack I’ve used yakama round bars for >30 years. I’ve had this set up of OEM LC rails with rail grab feet and 66” bars on my LX for 11 years (had the same crossbars for >20 years). I use it for: skis, a skybox, mega warrior basket, skinny warrior basket, bikes (when I have >4), a 16’ canoe, RTT,…. The bars come on and off in ~5 min.
