Hey HRTROB, is there a specific techstream to get. I'm looking at getting one for my 2018 VX 200
The VCX Nano series works really well, though be warned the software will trigger antivirus warnings on windows PCs. It's just how it works to trick the software into running.

MiniVCI is talked about a lot online but the consensus is the chip within the unit isn't up to the task so things like live data and TPMS don't work, even if it will read and reset codes. It isn't full-featured.

All of that said, that's what we generally use here in the states.. not sure whether these systems work for overseas vehicles or if the OBD port is even the same or a US standard. There used to be an Australian guy named Voodoo2 that posted a lot and was really good with tech stuff.. don't see that username anymore though.

The one I am using is the mini VCI one that I bought way back in 2013. Currently installed on a Windows 11 64 bit laptop running Techstream v17. Works on my family’s Toyotas… 2010 Hiace, 2011 LC200, 2013 86, 2014 Corolla, 2017 LC200, 2018 Alphard and even my 2002 LX470

Is it just on ebay?

Don’t get miniVCI. In 2011 it’s all that was available but there are better cables out now, like the one I listed above.

Does the VCX Nano work on Lexus and does it require a software sub?

I have a 2014 LX570 and the front vents don't seem to be blowing air (although I hear the motor or fan or whatever). I tried to see if there were any error codes by pressing the "auto" and "recirculate" buttons and then starting the engine but it just showed "00". So my assumption is perhaps this techstream tool will let me reinitialize the air system.

Yes it does work on Lexus, and it comes with a hacked version of the Toyota PC software called techstream. Due to how this software hack works it will generally set off antivirus alerts in modern windows installs, but none of us have had issues thus far.

I seem to remember you can pay for a temporary subscription to the official (and therefore presumably clean) Toyota software but not sure about that.

Gotcha, thanks for the quick response.

And of course, luckily I didn't order it because it appears the system has fixed itself...

I have experienced this in my 2019 LC200. Within 2k miles of taking ownership (purch with 26k) it happened and I took it to dealership who informed they knew of the issue and TSB. They reset the damper, my specific issue was driver side dash vents not blowing.

Things worked fine for about a week and then no air through dash vents again.

I obtained techstream and have reset the damper. From memory, go to body->air conditioner -> utility -> initialize, it was first menu item on the top left. Took longer finding the setting than resetting the damper.

Hopefully this doesn’t happen often or again.

Hope this helps.

Update to my experience.

my first techstream reset failed within 24 hours.

I reset again but this time, with tech stream running, I went through every setting using dash controls, I think a few times. I could hear the dampers moving around. Started, shut down and started again, a few times.

It’s been about two weeks and things have been flowing just fine so my effort to ‘go through the motions’ seemed to have a positive impact.

Maybe this works for you because I know how frustrating it is for those experiencing the issue.

I, too, purchased a 2019 200 series recently. Within the first 2-3k miles, same exact situation.

I reinitialized the AC system with TechStream, and it only held up for a day. Took it to a dealership -- wanted to put a new battery in & also reset it. Same thing. Finally reset the system again and went through all the different settings within climate and on the dash.

Really hoping the situation is like yours & it ultimately holds up. Thanks again @KeepGoing. Really appreciate you

Reinitializing solved the issue for me for a couple of years. In that period I asked the dealer to reprogram it per the service bulletin but they said the error was not occurring so I didn't meet the requirements. It finally came back, in 105 degree temps, and I left it in the broken state until the dealer could look at it. They flashed the update. So far, it's fine but it has only been 2 months and is now fall.

So pleased I could offer the help. Mine has been running strong and I hope you experience the same.

2011 Land Cruiser and was able to correct similar issue with HVAC codes and reset procedure for Toyota and Lexus. The fan was only blowing thru defrost in dash and not front or floor vents.
  • Hold Recirculate and Auto buttons down while starting
  • See the flashing codes - I stayed here about 20 seconds to video codes for reference
  • Hold Front and Rear defrost buttons down for 3+ seconds
  • 00s is best result resetting all diagnostic codes but I still have some Solar Sensor codes I think
So far so good after a few days.

To clarify, you were able to do the above without Techstream? Just pressing the buttons on the dash?

My 2009 LC’s defrost vents and foot vents are not working. They worked as recently as 9 months ago but I haven’t needed defrost since then. This week when trying to defrost, it seems like the actuators aren’t initializing to change from the upper vents.

Yes. I searched “HVAC codes and reset procedure for Toyota and Lexus” and followed along with video. Resolved issue first try and no recurrence since.

Had similar thing happen on my 2018 but on the passenger side and it was only the top vent. I assumed it was a stuck valve of some sort as the air would only come out the bottom vent no matter the setting on the climate settings page. Took to dealer and they said some sort of recalibration procedure fixed it. They didnt need to tear apart the dash. Has been working fine ever since.

My point is I believe there are things the dealer can do to troubleshoot and/or fix that do not involve tearing apart the dash. Maybe someone else here knows about this calibration procedure. I'll try to find my service paperwork later and post the dealer notes.

Did you find a solution ?

Wow, how frustrating. I am experiencing this right now with the 2018 I just purchased a few weeks ago. Started with the top passenger side vents not blowing air. So I tried a few different settings in the "Climate" screen to see what I could change, and that made the driver's side top vents also stop working. The driver's side foot vents also don't seem to work. Has anyone discovered anything else about this?

I certainly does sound like a SW bug. The fans are definitely blowing. The servos are able to switch between windshield and passenger foot. So seems like a calibration thing. I don't understand why Toyota can't figure this out. It's clearly a common problem on these latest models...
I have exactly same passenger side ac vent problem on our 2019 lc. After some time (days/weeks) it seems to just start working again. Goes for weeks and then suddenly goes away. Any idea ?

I have never experienced the problem again after doing that servo reset:

Conveniently, mine started working again all by themselves after a couple days. I did go ahead and buy VXDIAG VCX Nano w/ Techstream V15.00.026. Was able to connect up and peruse around all the diagnostics - pretty awesome tool. There were actually DTCs for both the servos, but also said they were no longer malfunctioning. I went ahead and did a servo initialization anyway.
