After upgrading to 33" K02s on my factory 20" wheels (2017 LX570) I noticed the added weight of the wheel/tire package.

I originally wanted to keep the factory 20s (which I may still) so I could upgrade to a bigger brake package from SOS Performance but the added weight of the current setup is felt around town and its a little annoying to be honest. Unless the Stoptech kit from SOS drops unsprung weight considerably, maybe the move is to get some lighter 18s and 33s to go back to stock weight wheel/tire setup.

Any input on what Volks or EvoCourse wheels weigh?

So far I am VERY happy with the performance of the K02s however, so at least theres that LOL

Back when I had 285/55/20 and I had no issues getting up to 80mph while towing. I’m running 285/70/17 now with sliders and still tows just fine, maybe even a little better.

What you're feeling is much more lost leverage and gearing due to the increased overall diameter rather than weight. Changing wheel sizes will only help incrementally. Regearing and a brake upgrade are the real solution. Regearing EDIT - isn't necessary at that size, but you can try going to a higher friction compound for the brakes like Hawk LTS which will make all the difference.

The 18" Evo Corse wheels are right at 30lbs a piece.
If you are looking for a lighter tire the firestone destination xt is a solid option. About 10lbs lighter then a k02 in the same size. Sidewall durability for serious wheeling would be my only concern with this XT.

Going from highway street tires to an AT Tire there will be a noticeable difference/ penalty with rolling residence.

You can defiantly drop weight by going with different wheels. I forget the actual weight of the OEM 20" wheels but they are ~40lbs each.
17" TRD Rock Warrior wheels are ~24lbs, ~22lbs if you remove the ring.

Not sure what size you put on your LX, but a 275/60r20 D (33") KO2 is 56lbs
285/70r17 C (32.8") KO2 is 51lbs

20lbs less per corner going to 17" wheels

@TeCKis300 mentioned the Hawk LTS pads. I also use them with 16+ brakes, and they work great.

I know most truck owners and people on 200 don't care about weight.

But coming from very light sports cars and bikes and us always worrying about weight, my wheel/tire choices took weight into consideration. Funny thing is whenever big tired/big lifted 200 guys drive my truck "wow your truck is so fast"

Weight is always the enemy.. there is a balance between capability and weight.... I love the balance I have for my needs.

Oem 18” TRD BBS wheels are right around 27 lbs a piece. OEM 16-21 18” wheels are 33 lbs. I definitely felt a difference. But I’m coming from BMW/rice land like @ryanCA

You worry too much about weight. It is a truck, and you should adapt your expectations from light sports cars. Please read again @TeCKis300 post about expectations. You increased the tire diameter, you installed a higher rolling resistance tire, with a totally different flex profile.
If you have the money, sure go ahead and change the wheels. Just make sure you adjust your expectations as even with light wheels it will still feel worse than the OEM setup.

How do you know that is not true when you do not have that setup? Are you saying that your current setup is better than the OEM around the town? Are you saying that K02s are better than highway tires around town/highway?

I have written at lenght that I do not have k02 anymore. I have had it for 11 years on 4 trucks. Too heavy for my needs and too loud for my needs.

I have done plenty of research and talked to many people and @TLC2013 and paul @TeCKis300 and @kreiten has been instrumental of building all my land cruisers over the last 17 years. Reading 165 pages of the tire thread, and looking at all the science data, I picked what works for me.

What I commented and said is ligther wheels (standard physics) is going to better heavier wheels. You said it won't feel better than OEM. Which doesn't pass the science test. Thus I asked for you to expand and provide facts.

We do not live in a world of alternative facts in the world of Land Cruisers.

Please provide facts of your false statement that "even with light wheels it will still feel worse than the OEM setup."

Ive gone to lighter wheel setups on cars in the past and the improved dynamics were VERY noticeable.

Funny enough, I didnt have this concern when I went with larger tires on my lifted 2016 GX460 but with this truck, I want it to ride a little softer. Again, because of my experience, I can tell its the weight of the current wheel/tire setup and not the strength of the sidewall, etc.

Im not willing to give up the capabilities of the K02 now that I have experienced it but I will look into a 17 or 18 wheel option.

I am strongly considering supercharging the truck, but thats only to make it more fun, not to overcome wheel/tire weight. Because of this, Id prefer not to re-gear since tuning is already somewhat limited for these “bolt-on” blower setups. Wouldnt want to add complexity to that soup sandwich

I think lighter wheels mentioned here (tires and rims combo) are real world limited since for 17" and 18" rims, if you go above 31.8-32" tires you'll 99% have to get LT/E-rated/M/T which are closing the gap with the weight difference compared to OEM setup. COMBINED with nominal inflation pressure of >41psi and noncompliance of a 10-ply tread ->even with light wheels it will still feel worse than the OEM setup :)

I would agree. Going from p metric to LT KO2s should make the ride quality and handling dynamics worse across the board.
yup stopped running ko2

wish I saw the light years ago.

with aarp membership comes wisdom and i am a slow learner

but had group forum mentality 20 years back and always bought ko2 - as that was pushed

I run 30” (265/60-18, yes that small, any larger and I can get in /out of my garage with skis on the roof) OD p metrics all winter and 34” (285/75-17) LT AT tires in the summer.

My LX drives night and day better on my winter set up, if I didn’t tow a ton there is no way I’d run LT tires on my LX, and I also off road a ton and will be going back to a more mild all season (Michelin defender, nokian outpost,…). Well unless my local GM dealer trades me straight up my LX570 for a demo hummer EV 3x that they have

yup similar to you I run "small" tires and off road a ton..

I am very happy with my setup and my light and nimble and fast 200 :) I only tow my side by sides.. pretty light out to the sand dunes few times a year.

No money for Hummer EV. I like my H1 too much .

@prez1967 If you plan to get rid of your wheels, let me know. Happy to buy the 20" from you. I live close.

I had a surplus humvee. I was at the GM dealer the other day for my daughter dropping off her Colorado for service, the sales manager really wants my LX,

I was at the GM dealer the other day (helping my daughter drop off her Colorado). The sales manager was very interested in my LX. When asked what it would take to consider selling/trading in, I threw it out there straight up for a new Hummer EV, he seemed to consider it. I’m not holding my breath, but I’d probably take that deal.
