2017 LC windows fogging up, dealer can't find the problem. *****UPDATE*************

My flap can be easily moved by hand to both the closed and open positions with zero resistance. The light does change from one to the other but no movement or sound. Here in Colorado, the cold causes pretty bad fogging so I would prefer to lock it in fresh air mode until I can fix it. Fresh Air Mode would be the flap being down correct? 2017 200 LC.

Flap back toward the passenger seat is fresh air mode. The above 3d printed fix should get yours working really easily.

Also did you remove the filter for better access? If not, you’re missing the filter and bracket.

Yes. Removed the filter to take the picture. The arm does look to be missing as you said. I ordered the part from ONEngineering via Esty.

Hi @Accessmark, that's my shop.

Till the part arrives later this week, manually "close" the recirculation door and that will keep you in the fresh air position.

I am experiencing a mild problem with fogging only to the driver side window and windshield in front. Driving by myself.

On my 2020 LX there is no A/C on off button,

BTW, on mine there is now a sticker with a small exclamation mark that says recirc mode only in English, Russian and Arabic. Not that this will deter anyone to change the filter forcefully.

The good news is that put the ignition on (without starting engine but the blower works) and tried the recirc the dome lowers and raise beautifully. It seems un-damaged.

I was just wondering how I could get less fog by my window. In other cars I just turn the A/C switch on and the fog goes away, but I can't tell if the A/C compressor is on or off on my car as there is no switch for it.
To me it seems maybe fan speed is too low on auto and the car cannot tell if you are fogging. I also have the recirc on auto and I should override it for outside air?

You should be able to look at the front of the AC compressor attached to the engine and tell whether the clutch is spinning. If so, it’s on. Your compressor is on the bottom drivers side of the engine.

If you select the defrost button on the climate control the AC will automatically switch on.

In checking the recirculation door cycle it 5 times to confirm it's operational. I've seen "false positives" when the housing is cracked; the door will cycle a couple times but then stop.

Edit: there can be some instances where in extreme cold the AC will may not operate by design and you'll get a little fogging on the glass. In this scenario I suggest keeping the defrost button selected.

Just a couple things I found:

I pressed the buttons for recirc until the auto AND outside air is lit up (2 lights) . so far I have not had fogging up anymore and seem to be best setting for me. I am not clear what difference from if it was just auto (1 light) or outside /recirc (1 light) by itself.

If you are too lazy to open the filter door to check, you can try to listen for motor sound when pressing recirc. It should be a brief servo sound no jamming or clicking noises. It takes few seconds to open the door to visually check it, but need to take some stuff out of the glove box first.

The software screen does has a A/C button (which is always on by default), but the hardware HVAC does not.

Hearing the motor is no guarantee the door is moving thouh..

Had this exact problem (high level of condensation on interior windows). Read this thread yesterday - took a look at the flap. Sure enough, the door is flopping around and 'cracked' on the passenger side hinge. Pisses me off since all service has been done at the dealer and they are the only ones who have ever touched the cabin air filter. I ordered the fix from ONEngineering on Etsy today. Anxious to get the fix put in - while cursing the dealership idiots the whole time!

Today I started driving in the morning, auto climate put it to recirc then it is starting to fog in minutes, soon it automatically switch to outside then and the fog starts to go away.

So now just like the general theme of this thread, if you have fogging/condensation AND in outside air mode, then likely the recirc door has some problem.

Always lock your glovebox door and keep the keyblade with you when having any service done. Clueless techs have broken many a flap.

I think, you can just get those blue wide masking tape and tape it over so it cannot be opened. write with sharpie do not open.

Got the piece in the mail today. Thank you, ONEngineering! Color is green now!

Looking forward to getting it in this evening after a fogged up commute this morning!

Or don’t even give them access. Lock the glove box.

Took an hour to put in this morning (I was moving slow). Video for repair was helpful - just a few differences due to newer model (an extra footwell light and lighted sill plates). I'm anxious for some humid, cool weather to enjoy my fog free windows! Thank again to the forum and to ONEngineering.

How hard is it to put this in? e.g. Do you have to take the dash apart?

Just the glove box and trim/airbag below it.

Bringing this back from the dead to say my new-to-me 2018 LC has been exhibiting foggy windows the 1st week of ownership. Thanks to this forum, I quickly confirmed broken flap linkage is the issue and the repair part has been ordered. Really appreciate the fix.

Here’s the sad part - previous owner was an older gentlemen and Carfax showed a cabin air filter replacement and, then less than 10k miles later, an AC Compressor replace and AC recharge. Almost certain this poor guy was chasing the fogging issue after a botched air cabin filter replacement.
