FWIW, the amp in my Lexus LS430 just went bad. It's common on those cars. I pulled the amp and mailed it off to be repaired.

Anyway, while the amp is out, I have still been driving the car. Driving without the amp hooked up gives the exact symptoms you're having. Like CharlieS said, I'd double-check for power to the amp.
That's super helpful, thanks!

Someone said it's under the seat - can you share how you accessed it and what I'm looking for under there? I couldn't get a good view and haven't looked into getting better access.

The JBL Synthesis and Mark Levinson systems don't use the same protocols to communicate between themselves (MOST vs CAN). Though it certainly could be the amp, especially the HU seems to cycle discs etc.

In my Mark Levinson LX570 when the amp failed, the HU and screen functioned perfectly (except for balance, fader, volume and other Amp DSP controlled functions), so a bit different than the LS I guess. It's funny as the LS and LX Mark Levinson systems are very similar.

FWIW I put in fully custom DSP and amplification and still use the stock screen and HU (as a source).

Thanks!

Just so I'm clear - you're referring to this unit (with the DVD player) right?

My unit has the AC controls being a 16'.
But yes.
I've been down this road, I suggest you let the dealership do the work as they are the only ones that have the JBL hook up AFAIK.

Sorry to go long without an update. I actually just (finally) resolved this issue in it's entirety. This dumb problem ended up costing around $3900. I took it to a different dealer that was recommended and I felt like they did a much better job diagnosing the problem. What I was told was that the stereo (the unit below the DVD player) was dead and we needed to replace that. We did and the screen came back, but now the AC didn't work. The tech reported the next failed component was the amplifier and that, for some reason, had some control of the AC. I believe someone else mentioned that in this thread. We replaced that and found one more issue - some relay or switch (I'll have to reference the final invoice) that had some control of the AC. They offered to replace that at no cost.

I've now had the LC back for a couple weeks and all has been good. We were going to sell it but we decided to keep it and use as my daily and our misc family vehicle.

Hopefully this thread will help any others that have had this issue. I was stunned I was the only one that had documented this. It was a super disappointing issue to have but I'm glad it's behind us. Thank you to everyone that helped - ya'll were so awesome!

Thanks for the info and hard work y'all put in...i've got a 2008 LC with the same problem (including no a/c). I'll pass this info (particularly the final posts prior to the July 5 "answer") to my mechanic.

Just searched and found this thread as I have a black screen on my 2013. My situation is a little different from the OP in that my issue started when I transferred my Tesla style HU from my 2013 to my new 2015. After transferring I reinstalled my original OEM HU back into the 2013. Everything including HVAC seems to work except the screen is black. I’ve tried the 2015 OEM upper and lower units together and one at a time in the 2013 and I know the 2015 units work. I didn’t try the 2013 stuff in the 2015 to confirm they are good but I’ve already installed the Tesla unit in the 2015 got it all working and have buttoned it up. After reading this thread, I’m pretty sure the issue is in the 2013 truck.

Some good info here in this thread will do some trouble shooting today. Not really what I wanted to spend time on today but that’s the way it goes sometimes.

Got it working. As usual, with me and wiring, I do something stupid like not actually connecting all of the cables. Not all of the plug connector openings are used but one of the necessary harness connectors was hiding deep in the dash as it wasn’t used when I had the Tesla unit installed. Anyway, after wasting a couple hours checking fuses and testing voltage and ground connections, I finally figured it out. Might start a new forum called iH8Wires.

i was having a similar issue with a black/blank screen, but audio and climate were both working. the issue began when i pulled the display and receiver to install a grom vlite. once i realized i had to drill into the glove box to run the vlite wires, i decided to abandon the install since i had read some pretty mixed reviews of the module on the forum. once everything was reconnected, the screen began flickering so i checked all wires and connections, but found nothing out of the ordinary. started the system again and the screen was blank. after scouring the forum and youtube, i pulled everything again and when i checked the blue connection on the back of the receiver (which i believe is the wire that connects the receiver to the display) i noticed it had a little bit of play in the connection. i worked on it until i felt it was snug, started the system and voila, that was the culprit. so glad i did because i was about to drop some dough on a tesla style screen.
