Hi All,

looking for opinions on those whom own the new 2007 tundra's. I am thinking of buying one and am wondering if they are adequate to tow a heavy fj40 on a trailer. I don't have too much experience with towing and would like to hear from others. Not sure of my curb weight of my 40 but it has: soft top, stock doors, sbc, 35 tires, winch, rear tire/gas rack. I plan to eventually get a trailer but not for awhile, for the meantime just may rent one for the long trips. Other than that will probably buy a tow bar for the meantime until the fj40 becomes a dedicated trail rig. When I do buy a trailer it will probably have a box up front to carry tools, spares, etc which I guess would add some weight. Eventually I will have to tow an fj55, which will be restored, so stock weight. My first thought is that the new tundra's should tow just fine at 10,800 capacity but thought I would ask fellow mudders for their opinions.

If I do this I am driving it into the ground, so want to make sure.

thanks,

Noah

I know several people that tow heavy FJ40's and 60's with the old tundras.

The new ones are significantly more powerful, I would not hesitate.

If you flat tow with the truck make sure you have plenty of weight in the bed, or that 40 will push your ass end are pretty hard.

I've towed a stock 40 with hard top on an 1100lb trailer behind a 2004 Tundra no problem.

Co worker bought one on Friday. Very nice. More horsepower and Torque than my 2004 F150. Towing capacity is greater as well. truck is Solid. IT should tow a FJ40 with out a problem.

A 5.7L Tundra has at least a 10,200# capacity. How many 40s do you want to tow? Three would probably be OK. Four would be pushing it.

My new Tundra tows my 7,000# capacity trailer and FJ55 with no issues. It has at least 3500# left over before capacity. It's a towing beast.

It's prewired for trailer brakes and comes with a high capacity hitch and 7 pin connector.

I have the 5.7 and I am towing my 80 which is a total combined weight of 8500 pounds. No problems here in the northeast. Personally speaking, considering the issue they are having with the cam shaft, I wouldn't recommend to anyone else to buy a new Tundra.

Cool, thanks guys! guess that answers my question.

Did anyone hear of the problems toyota is having with their Tundra engines? Hopefully not that serious, saw it on cnn today:

If toyota admits to a problem they will fix it. GM on the other hand refuses to acknowledge a problem with there engines. The 6.0 vortec has been s*** since the beginning.

I have seen piston slapping on them and all kinds of problems. GM says "normal".

Toyota fixed my 3.0 V6 in my T100, I know they will fix this issue.
