Got a brochure in the mail today that looks to be a joint effort between Specter and Toyota. You've all seen this thing allready, the "new FJ40." Personally I think they missed the mark. Anyway, the brochure comes with this super cool CDROM that has all kinds of old commercials and vintage FJ stuff on it. Trash the flyer, but keep the CD!

Is is the same thing they showed at the auto show, or did they fix the huge C pillar blind spot?

What is the obsession with car companies to make huge blind spots?

Same thing far as I can tell.

Ugly POS. Far as I can tell Jeep is more in "tune" with what wheelers want. Sad.

The point is the cool CDROM guys! We all know this thing is not worthy of the FJ title.

Interesting you would say that since no one has seen it in person or driven it. Get back to me after SEMA. It's a cruiser. Either you like all of them or none of them in my opinion.

The market is kids who wanted a Mini Cooper but thier dad said "No, thats too small to be safe and would be lousy in snow."

Now they both get what they want. ;)

Isn't there a forum here where the new FJ is discussed?

got one too. all it is, is the same landcruiser website that has been posted here like 8 billion times of the legend of the landcruiser thing. I've seen links posted from just about everybody swearing they were the first and only people to find the legendary landcruiser site and how awesome it was. I bet a search would turn up the same thing that was sent on this cdrom.

It's not a Cruiser. Might be a nice truck, and I might like it when the time comes, but a Cruiser it is not, nor ever will it be.

I have heard this a few times from several Cruiserheads, and ones I respect.
Why is it a problem that it has the Land Cruiser name?
I know it is the "FJ Cruiser" and not "Land Cruiser" but it is in the LC family tree as a Land Cruiser; just as the Land Cruiser Prado is.

IFS can't be the reason since the 100 has IFS... what is it?

I'm not being argumentative, just curious.

I don't like that either but it's a bad habit designers pick up in school. I wish they would fix that, it could be problematic trying to spot offroad... or even pulling out of a parking lot!

I never claimed to be the first to find anything dickhead. I liked the cdrom I got, don't yours? Use it as a frisbee.

We do get into a hair splitting thing here, but a Cruiser is based on a Cruiser frame and a Cruiser as a total package has a certain engineering ethic to its design that includes overbuilding and doing just about everything possible to ensure reliability, durability, and longevity. Over time they have evolved but share a lot of mechanical features, of which the FJ Cruiser shares few. Real Cruisers are also built at the Araco assembly plant, although we have evidence that 100 series Cruisers are no longer built there. :frown:

The FJ Cruiser is a marketing exercise more than anything else. It is a Tacoma mechanically, at least as it has been presented by Toyota to date. Nothing wrong with Taco's - best mid sized pickup in the world besides the Land Cruiser pickups that are available only in non-USA markets. But a Tacoma is not a Land Cruiser - it's not meant to be one, which is fine, it is what it is. Toyota took the Tacoma chassis and built onto it this goofy body that borrows some of its look from older Cruisers.

If it was a Land Cruiser then Toyota would call it that.

The market for J*ep's is plenty big enough. If Toyota wanted to, they could have made a viable new FJ with plenty of creature comforts. It would sell worldwide, not just the US. You can't tell me it wouldn't sell..they chose to make a fun little run around town, go to the beach vehicle instead.

Holy s*** dude you got way bent out of shape on that one. I wasn't referring to you claiming you were the first one. I was simply making a statement of what has been posted in the past so others, who may not be aware of what cd you and I received, so they can know what it is. I never said anything to you and didn't mean you so keep your cd and have fun with it I think I'll use mine as a frisbee cause I've seen everything on it. Don't get me wrong it's cool.

Man sorry I hurt your feelings but really that wasn't what it was meant to be.

No problem then, forget I said anything.
