How hard is it to replace the fuel pump of my 06? Seems like the access hole in my second row seat is smaller than the fuel pump housing. You have to bring down the whole tank to replace it? Prepping the truck for a long trip next week.

dropping the tank is the easiest way. the retaining ring is WAY bigger than that hole and if it slips...you get to drop the tank anyway!

looks like thats the only way. thanks.

You'll likely have to drop the tank. Major PITA. The white retainer ring will make you curse for a while. Be careful not to break the teeth off of it. It is usually VERY tight and the teeth are very flimsy.

Changing the pump itself is easy, but dropping the tank, opening it and replacing it is horrible. Also, no drain plug on those tanks I believe. So try to do it once your tank is empty or else you'll be carrying and possibly spilling a lot of gas.

I cut out a trap door in the bed of my old Z71 after dropping the tank once to replace the fuel pump, is that possible on the GX? I could change a fuel pump in 15 minutes lol!

I suppose it would depend on the location of the pump. As long as you don't hit a seat bolt (or hinge/lock) then you'd be good.

People in Hiluxes do it all the time, just below the second row seat. I'm fixing to do it in my vehicle, but not sure that I can. I hope I can, dropping my tank is even more bothersome, the weight of a 40 gallon stainless steel tank brings a few more cursing to the process...

I'll be doing the same thing on my '03 Runner as I don't want to drop the tank. There's plenty of room to do this work, just protect everything from sparks and use common sense.

The access hole in the 80 series is the right size but on the 120 platform, it's just plain stupid. I don't know what Toyota/Lexus was thinking :bang:

Please post some pictures of the cutout location when you find the right spot, that would be a big help. When I dropped the tank on my Chevy it was on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, and it was 3/4 full....like wrestling an alligator lol! Had to hitch hike to a parts store 40 miles away to get the part too haha! Good times!

There is already a cutout there from factory, it's just not large enough.
