I've got an '03 that has serious brake issues. A bunch of warning lights come on and a high pitched alarm sounds. I took it to a LC specialist and they say the equivalent of the power booster is shot and it'll take around $4,000 to put a new one in. Any thoughts on a reliable rebuilt booster/brake unit? If not what are my options for selling the rest of the vehicle? It's at least got value in the drivetrain and chassis. Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

Did you have any warning signs or noises before it all went bad? Not sure you can buy refurbished units.... ?

If you can DIY there are options other than spending $4000. A complete master cylinder assembly from an online Toyota parts dealer is about $1825 to $2100 plus shipping.

A motor and pump assembly shows $1225 to $1400 plus shipping. This is probably what you need. Then you ought to get a rebuild kit for the master cylinder while you're at it.

Do a "brake failure" search in this forum to see other options.

Your LC specialist estimate looks to be close to what a dealership would charge.
