I’m in a part of the world where the 200 series came with the 4.7 2uz engine for a brief period (2008-10). Have come across a good condition one with circa 160k miles and sub $20k equiv.

As a second car for the Mrs / replacing a recent RAV4 (personally I have a newer 3ur 200 - problem-free except for the usual cooling system / oil leak / rad issues which have all been addressed) - could this be a good buy? Or are these simply too old and complex to bother with.

Car needs some further diligence but curious to people’s views.

If it was in good condition and it's selling for a good value, I'd give it a shot. This is assuming I wasn't going to tow, haul, or make the 200 any heavier than it comes from the factory. I'd imagine the 4.7 wouldn't get it up and going quite like the 5.7 comparatively. With that said, many think the 4.7 is the golden engine from Toyota N/A v8 lineup. If you give it a shot, post what you get and start a thread with the build, etc if nothing else but for curiosity. good luck.

Aside from it being a bit slow, having a million mile (2UZ) engine in a 200 would be a really great combination. Are those all the 265hp vvt-i 2UZ engines or the fixed valve timing 235 hp? Did it get mated with the 5-spd or the 6-spd automatic? Or is it manual trans over there?

Problem-free, except for all the problems 😆
That regular maintenance in the Toyota world, not problems.

And lets not forget about the cracked exhaust manifolds. Doug Thorley is making a killing off 2UZ headers these days.

The only problem with the 2UZ (that is also a problem on many other toyota v8s) is the interference design of the valvetrain, meaning a broken timing belt could destroy the engine. Make sure that you replace that timing belt if it hasn't been recently done and keep doing so on schedule and that engine may outlast the rest of the 200. UZ is one of the best engine designs ever.
