Hey guys.. same Lexus but overhauled after the Baja 1000. I put about 20k in new parts into it for the 2010 season. new axles, diffs, steering rack, hubs, knuckles...pretty much the entire underbody is new. Felt really nice and tight for our race a few weeks back that we won at San Felipe. Hopefully we can continue winning the stock full class in SCORE. Do you guys like the new graphics?

I really like the new look......although I am biased towards black vehicles.

Did you need to replace all of those parts, or did you do it for peace of mind?

I think it looks Great!

Love the new graphics sand drifter...seems to flow with the vehicle better than the old ones...this will make it faster for sure!!!

Are those smaller tires? If so, why?

Nope still running the BFG Baja TA's 35" 12.50 with the new black TRD off-road forged wheels. This seems to be a good combination for weight and unsprung mass. We have luckily not had one flat or even had to change a tire during a race. That says alot about BFG.

I did replace all the parts simply because they were starting to show excessive wear, although nothing failed. That is pretty amazing to put 1500 race miles across Baja etc. and nothing failed?? The things that I noticed that were wearing were the 5 ling rubber bushings, rear wheel bearings slight play, steering rack play and that is about it. I change my fluids every race and they look good!

Thats good to hear......that nothing failed. Although considering the performance of the 200 series in the Dakar Rally, I didn't think 1500 miles in Baja would have been too much of challenge for it.........Dakar is like 5000 miles?? Hopefully the 200 will match or beat record of the 100 for Dakar.

It runs in the family (Your LX looks cooler though!):

I wonder if these rims are for sale somewhere

They are made by custom made by Enkei for Toyota for the Dakar........at least thats what we think is the reason we can't find them for sale anywhere.

Nice side by side pics....It would be cool to see if the Geiser Bros? who built my Lexus is as capable as the factory Toyota build? I spent alot of time in Japan working on the 200 series "CRAWL" system when I worked as a development driver. We tested the truck at a place called Nara Prefecture and Shebetstu proving ground.

I wish I had Robby Gordon's budget to run Dakar next year!

From the pictures that I have seen of both rigs, I think you might have a better overall suspension setup. The Dakar rig is closer to stock than your LX. You also have bigger tires.....so you might have the edge for suspension. You definitely will be faster, the 3UR will outrun the 1VD easily.

How was it working as a development driver for the 200? Maybe you can help settle the dispute in one of the other threads about why the 200 better built than the Prado.

We all wish we had a budget like Robby Gordon.......although with all that money you would think he would invest in 4WD:rolleyes:

Production class Dakar LC is limited to 33 inch tires.

I can tell you that I was in countless meetings and worked directly with the cheif engineers on the 200, 100, FJ, Tacoma, Tundra, and 4-runner when it came to off-road. I worked at the proving ground in phoenix for over 10 years specializing in off-road development and suspension / tire tuning. I can also spend the rest of my life answering questions on forums. Although, I decided to leave Toyota a few years back I did sign a confidentaility agreement so I am limited on what I can discuss. Toyota is a great company to work for sure and racing the 200 series is an advantage in many ways.

Sounds like a sweet job. I understand where your coming from on the confidentiality agreement. Can you discuss what are the differences in how the LC is developed vs the other Toyota platforms? Not looking specifics, but if there are major differences in the extensiveness of testing between platforms? I have always been curious about just how much testing Toyota does on the Land Cruisers compared to their other vehicles.

I am very satisfied with LC200 just except that 35" rubber is not possible yet. Wish I could do it in 2~4 years. ^^

Personally, the black rims look nicer than the silvery one.

Yes I can tell you that when it comes to testing, Toyota does an exceptional job on the details. As for the Land Cruiser or 200 series, 100, 80 etc. Testing involves going to locations world wide. I personally tested in many areas like Glamis, Rubicon etc. in the US but in Japan the areas we tested were extreme! Australia, Middle East are just a few more locations that the "Land Cruiser was tested and proven. The main reason is that the LC is a world wide vehicle and it has to meet the expectations and the market. We may not off-road much in the LC here but that is a daily thing in other countries. Other countries use the vehicle to get from a to b not just for recreation. To sum it up the LC is the toughest vehicle Toyota has and the vehicle has to meet its objective targets before sold to the public.

The other line of vehicles are not to far behind. I was the first to take a 250k prototype FJ through the Rubicon in which there were only 2 in the country back in 2005. Trust me in the fact that when Toyota finds weak points they address them before production. A lot comes from the Toyota way and the proccess they have used from their conception. I personally would not drive anything else and I have tested many competitors..just my 2 cents

Yeah, Toyota makes some gnarly 4x4s you just can't compete with. It shows when you compare axles, hubs and suspension setups and materials with the competition. Toyota has cut corners in their vehicles, but the one place I see where Toyota remained true is in their mechanicals and suspension.

They have cut corners on their sedans and higher volume cars, but I havent seen any signs that they have cut corners on the LandCruiser. The LC is one vehicle that they do not want to do anything that affect its reputation for quality and reliability....I think its the vehicle that they are most proud of......I think....

hey sand drifter can you answer one question for me in the lexus version of the 200 the suspension controls are right above the cup holder. I have personally seen at a dealership a lx570 being worked on because of a coffee spill. with all the research and development no one thought that this might posssible be a hazzard for all the wires there?????.
