200 Rear Mud Flap Delete & Custom Fab (1 Viewer)

So a while ago I removed the rear mud flaps on my cruiser.
Love the stout look from the rear without but hate the holes it left in my wheel wells.

Got inspiration from a forum member that did the same on his 100 and fab’ed some plates to fill the holes.
But wanted to use black plastic for mine.

And installed the newly repurposed Rubbermaid trash can flaps on my cruiser!
Pretty pleased with how they came out for 30 minutes of work!

The trash can was an afterthought when i had difficulty trying to find black sheet plastic.
After looking at several places and not finding what i wanted, started to poke around the garage and the can ended up being perfect.

Yeah its a dent alright.

Last year while my son was learning to drive, he backed into a tree.
My fault as much as his cause I wasn’t paying attention & he wasn’t looking behind.....DOH!

Plan to replace the bumper with an aluminum dissident and get a new liftgate shell from toyota.
Seen em for around $800 new.

Unless someone out there wants to sell me their liftgate shell . . .

What a creative idea!

On another note, I see you have a WT cargo liner.....dos you’re shift all over the place? I’m trying to come up with a way to better secure it since it seems to slip and slide all over the trunk.

Interesting, I have yet to have that issue, but items placed on it sure do slide around!

Looks realllllly good. I hate those enormous flaps, went to take them off when I first got the truck, but realized they were pretty intregal to the structure and weather protection in that area. Looks like that will be my next project.

@PaulC - unfortunately I dont have the template anymore but it was very easy as I only used one for both sides as the exterior curves are the same and only diff is a couple of bolt holes and the interior profile.

Great idea for 'upcycling' -- I have a couple of kitchen trash cans where the automagic lids broke, so they're currently just storing pool noodles, shovels, and random wood.
