200 as daily driver?

This is probably “obviously” a dumb question to ask as I’ve owned (2) 200’s in the past but am I stupid for buying another 200 and use it for daily driving, long road trips and the couple times of year it sees some decent off-road trips. The main reason I’m considering another 200 (MY19 with stage 6 icon setup already on it) for its safety for my family with all the terrible drivers in Tennessee and the obvious reliability as I plan on keeping whatever I buy next until it dies. My wife was thinking a Audi Q7 or Highlander, new Chevy blazer would be the wiser choices .

If you can afford it why not. Of your other 3 options I would get Highlander. We owned a 2006 Honda Pilot prior to 2016 LC. Sold it with 184K on od in perfect shape. Never left me on side of road. Did have to replace rack and pinion and power steering pump and starter. Oil, oil filter, air filter, and timing belt every 60K plus water pump.

If it were me, I would buy something more fun if I already had a 200. I would get a Cayenne if you dont need the 3rd row.

If you don't have another rig, and you are taking "decent off-road trips", get the Cruiser or a 4Runner.

YOUR WIFE IS WRONG! I wouldn't want any of them over 100K miles. If you are looking for a keeper stick with the cruiser.

There are other possibilities but they will not be a CRUISER. If it was my wife/sister/mother they will all be in 200s, most likely LXs.

I’ve owned all kinds of awesome cars from AMG’s/GT, Porsche’s,etc. but now we are going into a much more practical mode now and getting over the fun/fast/luxury car phase of life onto let’s take a couple of long road trips and see some sites phase and whatever we buy must last a min of 10yrs. Not a lot of options that offer what we are looking for. Thai would be my primary driver as my wife has MY19 X3 she loves and my 16yr.old daughter has a Volks Tiguan as she does not like big SUVs. My youngest wants me to get a Raptor as she loves big trucks. But it’s useless off-road where we live. Too wide

Had a 2018 Audi Q7, non stop issues and finally ended up being taken back under lemon law. Looked great, but hated every minute of driving the car after the test drive.

I’m sure I’ll be the dissenting opinion but I’d get a fuel efficient car or a hybrid. I had a Mercedes C350 (26mpg) and an 80 series before the 200 and only drove the 80 when it was needed. We downsized and moved states late last year and had to get down to 2 vehicles - 3 was gonna be a major pain in the ass.

Anyway - the 200 was the practical option. I live in the backcountry and on the beach during weekends so I need a reliable and capable truck. But I also now drive the 200 daily, which sucks on several levels. It gets 10-12 mpg being the big one.

My cousin has a highlander and it’s a great suv for its purpose of hauling kids around and daily driving. My other problem here in TN is every freaking person drives a big ass truck and I can never see around them when trying to pull out in traffic, so I get burned until they go. This is the other reason I’m considering a lifted LC or similar. Otherwise the Highlander is great.

The constant re-fueling is frustrating every 280-300miles

Occasional serious off-roading, safety, people hauling, and reliability are criteria that only matches a single vehicle on the market, and that's a cruiser.

Without a heavy foot and with highway driving it'd quite possible to see 18-19mpg in a stock 200.

I think a lot of this depends on your specific usage, and in particular how much you will be off-roading or needing the passenger/cargo capacity of the 200. I love my LC, but it is far from ideal for (my) daily driving or long road trips that don't involve towing or hauling a bunch of camping/ski/bike gear plus people.

I will be hauling my family of 4 most weekends and on long road trips full of luggage,bikes or kayaks and eventually buying an expedition trailer when we start exploring off the paved roads-Zion,Yellowstone,Ouray,Smokies but yes it will mostly see paved roads 95% of the time

This kind of overlaps with another thread on weight. Stock, the cruiser gets reasonable gas mileage and handles well for everyday use. Modding if taken too far, can easily swing the balance overall, such that it becomes poor at doing everyday duties.

I’m pretty much keeping it the way it sits now with its lift and huge 35.12.50/18 tires until they wear out, then I’ll throw on a slightly narrower tire closer to a 34 vs current 34.5. I will also add onboard air as I would use that pretty often for inflating tubes for the lake.
