I have been long thinking of replacing my exhaust manifolds with the rams horn style. There have been lots of threads on this-- Texican on pirate does it a bunch using a stock chevy cross pipe.

Anyway, I found a company that sells a new 2.5 inch rams horn on ebay for 89 bucks. Not a great deal, but pretty good. The 2.5 inch does not work with the chevy cross over pipe (it requires a custom pipe) but I think it will be worth it.

One problem-- the add says the exhaust manifold only fits 327 inch engines-- it does not mention 350's. They also sell a 2.0 inch, and they say that fits both 327 and 350.

This seems wrong to me-- wouldn't the 2.5 inch also fit a 350???? I always thought that 327 and 350's were externally the same.

Here is the 2.5 inch manifold

PS --If anyone knows of a better source for these manifolds I would love to hear it. I understand you can get them directly from Chevy-- does anyone have a part number?

i dont know, but wouldnt you rather have a header? just wondering.
as i do have a 327 in my cruier :D

i have the ram horns on my 40 there great never leak, the heads on all small blocks (pre 86 i beleave) will interchange, so will manifolds and so on, i once built a 331 small block for my 69 Z28 using a 350 4 bolt block and a 69 large journal 327 crank and the heads came from a 350.

Yes ... unless you have some other accessory in the way there is no reason why the 2.5's wouldn't bolt up. The bolt pattern and flange angles on the heads are the same.

Why pay $89 when you get a set from the pic and pull for $20? Its tempting and I have been thinking of dumping the sanderson headers for rams horns. Mainly leaks and to decrease engine bay temperature.

Cast iron will keep the engine compartment marginally cooler.

It is better on leaks though and also insulates the exhaust for better flow.

Why pay for new? Because the 30+ year old ones in the junk yard are probably cracked or will soon. The decent ones you might find at swap meet can cost almost as much. I'd get new ones the next time I need 'em. The ones I have now are holding up well for their age. I broke one once when my muffler stayed with a rock it met. Broke the collector clean off and a spark plug too. That was a noisy ride home!

Here's how......

Here's what lots of 40's have, mine included: Cheers! (1st pic is not mine...rest are)

Few more shots..... These may work for you....system is 2" from Ramshorns to crossover joint, then 2.5" the rest of the way out. For most situations, this is sufficient, I don't mud bog or need high rpm acceleration, just good midrange and low end. I like it very much for my needs. YMMV. :)

Who makes those headers. Ive seen a couple of em but dont know what they are. I have the old style Hooker Comp headers and they take up mass amounts of space.
Not headers, just good old cast iron manifolds from the boneyard...I installed two passenger side units so I wouldn't have interference with my PS pump mount. You can also find them on ebay for cheap if you don't want the 2.5" units.. Cheers

What difference does size make? (loaded question if junks on the board).

Supposedly, bigger size equals more power for higher rpm...?? But in the case of a cruiser for typical low rpm work, you want torque, not HP per se. Flowmaster, my muffler manufacturer recommended the 2" front end of my system with 2.5" on back from the crossover junction. They said the torque would be better, and the HP the same through 4500rpm...after that the HP falls off some. For my use, I don't notice any loss at all, it works well and is tucked out of harms way....as usual, YMMV!!! Cheers

NAPA sells the RAMS, new. You'll have to special order. I think the RAMS from a 1972 Corvette will fit. You'll have to work with the sales tech to look at pics. You'll need the center dump rams for a nice fit.

Not to hyjack but has anyone run duel exhaust with the Rams; what a about running a cherry bomb for the simulated header sound?

1aauto has the best prices on some brand new aftermarket ram horns. Way beefer than stock and comes in at like $50 a piece IIRC.

Your really not going to see much advantage over 2.o with 2.5, the only difference is that the 2.5 has that bracket that gets in the way.
