I recently purchased a 2004 LC, it has 80K miles on it, cranked the torsion bars and removed the running boards, runs great and was well maintained by previous owner. I am bout to take a 1000 mile road trip from Austin, TX. to northern Colorado. Aside from checking fluids and tires is there anything else I should do in preparation?

Just curious?

Advice: Don't worry - you're in a Land Cruiser.

I drove my 2003 across the US and back for 13,000 miles in three weeks.

Don't forget to load up the ARB Fridge with plenty O fluids....

Wash windows, fill reservoir, checkmairpressure on all 5 tires. W

I bought a 2006 w/95k miles in SLC & drove it down to LA (700 miles) and didn't think twice about it aside from making sure there was fluid in the radiator & oil in the engine. If something catastrophic goes out, its going to go irregardless of any prep you could think about doing.......and the chances are very, very slim that something like that could happen.

Get ready for the fuel shock though.

80k? 10k a year? Your LC is just getting broken in. Just get ready for the 90k service when you get back... Have a nice trip!

lean back and relax

How do you check the serpentine belt? is there an easy way to look at the belt with out having to pull everything apart? I was told that when you check it you might as well replace it because of all the work that is required to be able to see it.

Your thinking about the timing belt. The serpintine belt is the one in the front of the motor that drives all the accessories off the crank pulley.
Just look to see if its cracking or looks glazed.
You can also peek at the timing belt by removing the timing cover. Not hard at all.

In the middle of my first big road trip. Should be around 1400 miles total. Mine will cruise all day at 95 mph. No problem. Smooth as a 747 jumbo jet.
