1KZ-TE Timing belt - parts list and other items?

I've got a 1KZ-TE powered KZJ78 that I recently imported from Japan. I can't find any proof of a timing belt replacement, and it has about 166K km on the odometer. While the timing belt has probably been done, I'd be more comfortable going ahead and replacing it. While I'm sure I can find a parts list for the basic components, I'd also like to leave a trail to make it easier for future KZJ78 owners here in the US to source parts.

Does anyone have a parts list for the job they can share? What about other nearby components that would make sense to replace or inspect while in the neighborhood? I'm clearly going to do the water pump and thermostat at the same time, but what else... any pulley bearings or similar that would be stupid not to replace at the same time? I'm considering also replacing the fan in anticipation of future performance mods and making sure I'm ahead of the curve in keeping engine temperatures low. I'm likely to also pull the AC clutch and replace that bearing as preventative maintenance.

I found a sticker near the hood latch that was all in Japanese that said mine was replaced at 209K. I had to do a translator app on my phone to figure out what it was. I am probably going to replace mine this summer though. I was looking online and a few places carry timing belt kits. I think Radd Cruisers and cruiserteq do. From looking you have to buy the water pump and tensioner separately from radd cruisers and probably some gaskets too.

One of these guys had thermostats too because I remember looking. If I am not mistaken I think I saw two ones for the 1kzte that opened at different temps. Not sure witch would be better. I assume the Lower temp one would be best?

I'll take a look at that one. Cruiserteq was out of stock on theirs and had no ETA for resupply. I might start sourcing things piecemeal once I get a complete parts list. I'm looking at doing some other stuff while I'm in the area as well. The pulley bearing on the AC compressor and the alternator belt come to mind. I'm going to look at either replacing the fan clutch or at least crack it open and put in new oil. I might also replace the OE fan with a 10 blade as I hear they do a good job moving additional air. I'm sure I'd replace the thermostat, but haven't looked at what options there are. I know I've heard enough about the 1KZ being susceptible to overheating and some of my driving will be on highways with big long hills with ambient temperatures north of 100F, so I want to make sure and stay ahead of the game with cooling.
 
The best things I have done to cool my 1kz-te have been a 3" free flowing exhaust, front mount intercooler, and a manual boost controller allowing peak boost of 16psi. I opened up the fan clutch and put heavier oil in but it didn't have a huge effect on water temp. Water temp isn't really the issue from what I've seen. But EGTs could easily get very high before I did these mods.

My timing belt was changed at 189k (it's at 232k now). Water pumps are generally inspected when the timing belt is changed in japan and if there's no play in the bearing, grinding or leaks, they aren't changed. I'm leaving mine until the next timing belt service. Even when they do start to leak they don't generally fail catastrophically.

Injector service is recommended every 100k. Have them tested and the nozzles changed or get rebuilt ones on exchange. They are almost definitely out of spec at this point. While doing that it's also good to clean the intake of all the junk that accumulates due to the EGR. I also deleted my EGR.
 
Can anyone confirm these are the correct OEM part numbers for a full timing belt kit? CruiserTeq has been out of stock for the timing belt kit and I have not been able to find a full parts list. Here's what their kit includes. I'm having trouble verifying the last three lines - camshaft seal, crank seals (2), and fan clutch studs. It's not clear to me from the parts diagrams which part is which. I'm not sure the fan clutch studs are particularly necessary, though if they're cheap enough, it's better to have them and not need them than to stall over a few bucks worth of missing parts.

Any other parts you would include while doing a timing belt replacement? I might do the valve cover gasket at the same time. I know mine has a small leak and it might make sense to tackle at the same time.

Those are all the right part numbers. I wouldn’t bother with the crank or cam seals if they aren’t leaking tbh. Makes a very easy timing belt and water pump job on the 1KZ a bit more of a hassle. And I’m a big believer in if it ain’t broke don’t fix it when it comes to those seals.
 
I used Radd Cruisers for a bunch of parts on a customers KZJ78 that came in the shop. They seemed to have everything I needed in stock. I didn’t know Cruiser Outfitters stocked parts for the 1KZ, but you can’t go wrong with either shop.

I don't think they are particularly expensive - probably $25 for all three pieces - so I'd rather have them on hand before I start in case I find they need replacing. It's better than having the car stuck in the garage for a couple weeks if I get started, discover a leak, and then have to order a part from overseas. I know I have an oil leak from the valve cover gasket, and the seepage from that one could be hiding leaks elsewhere.

We stock a great deal (and growing) parts for the KZJ7x, engine, tcase, axle, steering, etc. They have been increasingly popular and we are bumping our stock to accommodate which has been a tough go as of late.

I didn't see an option to put them on backorder, but had put both the OEM and Aisin kits on my wish list. I'll decide whether I want the Aisin kit or whether I'll piece together my own OEM kit. I think all the individual parts are available, it's just a matter of me confirming a few details before I push the button.

You call our parts team to place an order. We still do most of our business the old fashioned way :D Those order always ship before we add new stock to the CruiserTeq.com site. So often customers get their parts in a week or two (when backordered, we ship 95%+ orders the same day they are placed) yet CruiserTeq may show 'out of stock' for weeks/months. It's the only way to be fair to those with actual back-orders vs wish-listed items if that makes sense. I.e., place a phone order and you'll get parts that are out of stock on the ecom site :D

Done. Called Cruiseroutfitters.... ended up ordering the Aisin kit though they had an OEM kit available. I don't often go with aftermarket stuff, but they talked me into it. I've always suspected the 100km interval was overkill anyway (doesn't make sense to me US based car timing belts last 100K miles but non-US timing belts need to be replaced every 100K km). I may as well save the $50, and Aisin has a pretty good reputation.

In case anyone searches this thread in the future.... Cruiseroutfitters helped me fill in the dots. Here is a full list of the OEM part numbers in case you want to put together your own timing belt kit. If you're getting everything, it would be easier just to call Cruiseroutfitters and order it through them (I learned that the hard way), but maybe you can save a couple bucks if there are parts you don't need or you're going to mix and match OEM and aftermarket stuff.

In case you need it like I do (not normally part of the timing belt kit), the valve cover gasket is 11213-67010.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. My parts are already inbound, but I like to leave a record behind me once I solve something that bugged me as I'm probably not the last guy who will search this forum to figure this out.
 
Our kit comes with a better pump solution. 16110-69045 is just the pump rotor assy (Toyota calls PUMP ASSY, WATER, W/O COVER), our AISIN pump is the entire assembly with the housing (16100-69355) and the gasket (16271-67020).

The aftermarket kits are great, AISIN pump (same as OEM Tpyota), we use the OEM Toyota Hydraulic Tensioner. Gates is an OE offerings for many applications and has vetted parts.

Why? I know literally dozens of people that have just changed the front part of the pump on 1KZ motors with over 500 thousand kilometers with no issues.

The one piece AISIN assembly is the same exact water pump as used on the later common rail 1KD-FTV, and many people change those out to the two piece water pump, to avoid having to take off the cam seal retainer the next time they change the pump.
