Ah ok now I see, cruiser outfitters still sells the two piece AISIN pump not the whole single piece assembly. I still wouldn't change the rear housing on my car if the gasket at the block wasn't leaking, but that's a personal choice I know everyone might not be into.

Why? I know literally dozens of people that have just changed the front part of the pump on 1KZ motors with over 500 thousand kilometers with no issues.

The one piece AISIN assembly is the same exact water pump as used on the later common rail 1KD-FTV, and many people change those out to the two piece water pump, to avoid having to take off the cam seal retainer the next time they change the pump.

The housings can get major corrosion and pitting and/or leak between the housing and the engine block. A new gasket may be all that's needed. But if we are going to order the complete pump assembly versus the rotor assy for the same price. Why not?

If you're inclined to only change the rotor assy and gasket, that's included in our 2 pcs kit too ;)

Right, and often you don't know the condition of cooling system or previous service record so a good idea to change it. In my case, I've got good service records and the coolant has been changed every two years for at least the past decade. I'm still on the original water pump at 140k miles and it was inspected and fine at the last timing belt job. I carry just the front part of the pump on long trips just in case, but I think it's pretty rare for one of these to fail catastrophically. Usually just a small leak past the bearing.
