Hi -
I finally acquired the 1HZ that I wanted but it comes with an R151.
It is a pre-1995 1HZ that most likely came from ENS industrial as it was used in a mine.

I want to put it in an 86 FJ60 and hope to find an H55F to go with it.
I was also planning to use my existing transfer case.

Could use some advice on whether or not I can use an H55F from a gasser (course spline?) or one that was used with a diesel (fine spline?) Supposing I could use either but that the existing bell housing is also a consideration. As are fly wheels.

would greatly appreciate some opinions and info.
thanks

No you cannot use the course spline H55F from a gasser, there is also an issue with the pilot bearing size. The Course spline works with the H series diesel if you use the correct bell houseing but for the 1HZ you will need the other tranny.

Cheers,

Michael

FWIW: I'd be willing to bet both of us got 1HZs from the same source (mine came from Billings, with an R151f not long ago...)--mine that pulled the Toyota motors to install Cummins motors.

I'm planning on sourcing a new input shaft and bellhousing for the H55f I have sitting in the shop (it needs rebuilding anyhow, despite having maybe 100 miles--long story) to mate it to my 1HZ. Since you don't have an H55 yet, I'd just call around and try to buy a tranny that was coupled to a 1HZ from the get-go (like from Australia).

I've never done it before, but I can't imagine that there is much difference other than the input shaft. Other than the input shaft, it seems to me an H55f is an H55f. But don't quote me on that. ;)

Thanks Dan - How did you get one from Billings? Thats where I am at.

I have been in contact with some guys at the mine,...about all this. Still trying to get a starter that is reasonable - do you know of any reliable sources in OZ? Ebay or wrecking that you have used or know to be ok?

You putting that in your 45?

I got it because I was tipped off by a mud member that I really ought to check out the craigslist ad. To make a long story short, my brother (who lives in Helena) had my Dad's Tacoma up there while he worked on his FJ-62. But my Dad was flying up to Helena just a few weeks in the future so it was easy enough to load it in the pickup, and just wait for it to get a ride back down here.

What did they do with the starters? Mine is missing as well. I was planning on sourcing one from Oz, either with help from a friend or I very well might fly down there just for some junkyard wrenching (that's another long story) and get one that way.

Have you tried Radd cruisers? I don't know if they've got many used starters, especially for a 1HZ, but it's worth a shot. If you have a part number (or can come up with a serial number for the truck--which if you can talk to the guys in the mine they can probably get you one for a sister truck) then CDan can get you one. I'm expecting to pay $300+ for a reman Toyota starter for this though (that's what it was for my faux-lux).

Yep. The current plan is to swap the H for the 1HZ, and the H41 for the H55f. I'm getting scarily close to actually working on my 45 now!

cool - must be nice to have a dad and a bro that are both Toyota people.

not sure about the starters story -maybe they sold them all to RADD cruisers - haha.
got a wrench in the mine looking for any that are left. they have obsoleted pretty much all 1HZ stuff.

R U an aircraft mechanic?

It is. The 40 project in my sig is actually Dad's truck. I will get to my 45 after I finish his (hopefully before Christmas).

They very well could have sold them all to the cruiser houses. Radd, ENS, 4WD Auto, West Coast Cruisers, SOR... If I owned a cruiser shop (especially one that specializes in 70 series ;) ) I'd sure stock up on any 1HZ parts I could.

I am an A&P (certified airplane mechanic), but my day job is as an airline pilot.

ARGGGGGG!!!! Now you are just messing with me

Ok, for the record, I have no problem saying that other than ENS (and just see what it cost to get shipping to the states from ENS) I probably have the most inventory in the United States of 1HZ and 7x series parts. I will also say that if I don't have something you are looking for I can get it, I deal with countries all over the world.

Ok, now that is all I have to say :crybaby:

_thought so - know a few pilots and A&P's - bro-in-law fly's for flight options (hawker) and have a buddy that now wrenches for columbia heli.

These pics are 2H and 1HZ bellhousings [mirror reverse] and the different in the 2H /1HZ gearbox front shafts. The 1HZ shaft is fine spline and longer

Were can I get the bell houseing and input shaft for the 1hz if I have a 2h h55

Thanks

Either ENS in Canada or roodogs4wdspares on Aussie ebay for the shaft.
Try a WTB ad on MUD classifieds for the bellhousing or both;)
