looking at getting Munro Racing 1hdt ct26 billet high flow turbo from Australia but starting to have doubts after getting told no we are too busy, then yes we can make you one, then maybe, then yes. The price is reasonable at $1080 new or $950 exchange. Munro claim boost of 18-40 psi from turbo if the motor is up to it. Has anyone here purchased one of their turbos? I can purchase a turbo locally for a few hundred dollars more than their price with warranty so just wondering which way to go local or with the overseas Munro

I think if they are claiming 40psi from a high flowed 1hd-t ct26, run away fast!

$1080 is rebuild, or basic high flow price IMO. But, if it's just a high flow compressor and standard turbine you'll not get 40psi out of it

If it's re-engineered with modern turbine, compressor and housings, then maybe IF they've got solid test results and info to back up that claim

all they say is the compressor wheel is a GTX style 50.3mm which is very efficient and the strength to handle huge boost pressures and abuse. Fitted with 360 degree thrust kit, high pressure adjustable actuator.
There is no mention of the turbine side.

Chur Bro...They are a reputable company, a few Supra guys here in OZ run their high flow turbos and vert happy with them. some with 400rwkw plus.

A 1HD-T is not a supra.
Diesel vs petrol engines have Different airflow volumes. Different RPMs, completely different turbo requirements. A turbo that is built for a petrol engine will often be completely incompatible on a diesel.

You won't get a useful 40psi from a ct26 with standard turbine.
A good turbo upgrade for 1HD-T will include a turbine upgrade that will bring boost on at much lower RPM, will have a more efficient turbine AND a large, more efficient compressor

Search the diesel tech section

I'd never heard of Munro turbos until earlier this week when I joined a FB group called 1hz, 1hd/t/ft/fte modification's & upgrades
that seems to be primarily Australian members. Seems a number of them are running them on there.

Also, you'll have better luck posting diesel specific questions in the Diesel section of the site, lots more traffic from people with these engines than the general 80's section.

Sorry cuz, I was just commenting on the company and their turbo quality.

I was only after 20psi to start with then maybe 25psi at the most. I was reading somewhere the turbine side is altered. Anyway can't be worse than the Mamba I purchased and had to return due to the compressor hitting the housing.

Cheers

Your in nz?
Your best bet is to get hold of Steve murch
Tell him want your after and he will custom make it to suit
Been in a fte with one of his turbos and was impressed plus your supporting a kiwi not a aussie :)

Yes bottom of South Island
I have spoken to Kaiapoi Repowers up Cristchurch way and they do a good upgrade and also Trundles Automotive in New Plymouth but both are quite a bit dearer than the Munro Turbo. I'm going over to Australia shortly so I will be going to see Munro turbos to pick up a turbo off him
Not too bothered about the Kiwi Aussie thing

I found short a video of a 1HZ running one.

As they are Aussies and have had the 1H.. engines over there the whole time I would think they have a reasonable grasp on what works on diesels by now? I can't seem to find anybody moaning about them anywhere, which implies good service in case of problems also, as surely every shop must get some problems? mostly seems like diesel people like them otherwise.

I'm also considering their stock billet upgrade Landcruiser 4.2 Turbocharger High Flow

I'm not wanting big BHP, 15psi but spooling faster than stock will do me fine, reliability and know-how levels seem promising.

Are you running a high flow intake? From what I've been learning (From Tor and others) unless you loose the restriction at the intake, a compressor can get sucked into the housing because of suction on the intake side. I'm just wondering if that was a contributor on the Mamba you had. Might be worth checking out while you are searching for a turbo.

no the intake is stock standard. The Mamba turbo was never fitted as it was faulty out of the box and sent straight back to them for a refund.
I have now fitted a Munro highflow ct26. Im getting 20psi boost by 1800rpm EGT pre turbo up long hill got to a max of 700c so very happy with the Munro turbo.

Any idea what the turbine side is on these highflowed ct26s?

is this the billet upgrade option you have? is it boosting much earlier than stock ?
