I have a 1995 FT for one of my own Cruiser builds.
Today I pulled the head. It has been sitting as a long block in my shop for a couple years. Came out of a Euro 80 that is really beat down.
At some point somebody busted the cam caps that bridge across to the rocker rod on there caps. They welded the caps and put a brace on top. I am guessing they didn’t have the engine in phase when they installed the cam, kissing a piston and busting three caps. Total guess though.

Bummed to see the rust in the bores when I pulled the head. So perhaps the cam and rocker assembly was pulled to do a head gasket but there is zero corrosion on the top of the block and the head gasket in it is fine.
Whatever the case may be there has definitely been water/moisture/condensation in the cylinders in the past. Going to have to bore it due to this.
I am actually rebuilding another FT right now from the UK, sold to us as a “100k” mile engine with compression within 25psi of new. After tear down, I believe him on that one!
My FT I am building up pretty nice, I will detail the build in this thread along with the other FT. The other FT just needs a light hone and standard rings/bearings. EGR engine though so nice to clean the head out and rebuild it, a few BEB show wear and it is getting ARP head studs. Running a GTurbo red wheel on it, +30% fuel, A/W intercooler, Torfab Zeal Power Rod, 3” SS exhaust we built and a bunch of other goodies. ADS in Australia did the pump and injectors.
Mine gets a new FTE head, Yanmar valve cover, new injectors +30%, rebuilt pump, Winks turbo (no idea on boost yet, will keep it under 30psi), Torfab Zeal Power Rod, 3” SS exhaust we will build, ARP head studs and I am thinking of doing the new GTurbo conrods.
Cheers
