This valve cover is for my FT but that sure looks good to me! 🤩🤙

More assembly of this FTE. Went to put the outer timing cover on a few weeks ago and noticed an ear busted off it for mounting the plastic timing belt cover. So had to order a new one, it just showed up today.

Also tearing down another FT right now for a light rebuild.

Cheers

Just read all 7 pages. Nice work!! keep it up. loving these posts

I have a 1995 FT for one of my own Cruiser builds.

Today I pulled the head. It has been sitting as a long block in my shop for a couple years. Came out of a Euro 80 that is really beat down.

At some point somebody busted the cam caps that bridge across to the rocker rod on there caps. They welded the caps and put a brace on top. I am guessing they didn’t have the engine in phase when they installed the cam, kissing a piston and busting three caps. Total guess though.

Bummed to see the rust in the bores when I pulled the head. So perhaps the cam and rocker assembly was pulled to do a head gasket but there is zero corrosion on the top of the block and the head gasket in it is fine.

Whatever the case may be there has definitely been water/moisture/condensation in the cylinders in the past. Going to have to bore it due to this.

I am actually rebuilding another FT right now from the UK, sold to us as a “100k” mile engine with compression within 25psi of new. After tear down, I believe him on that one!

My FT I am building up pretty nice, I will detail the build in this thread along with the other FT. The other FT just needs a light hone and standard rings/bearings. EGR engine though so nice to clean the head out and rebuild it, a few BEB show wear and it is getting ARP head studs. Running a GTurbo red wheel on it, +30% fuel, A/W intercooler, Torfab Zeal Power Rod, 3” SS exhaust we built and a bunch of other goodies. ADS in Australia did the pump and injectors.

Mine gets a new FTE head, Yanmar valve cover, new injectors +30%, rebuilt pump, Winks turbo (no idea on boost yet, will keep it under 30psi), Torfab Zeal Power Rod, 3” SS exhaust we will build, ARP head studs and I am thinking of doing the new GTurbo conrods.

Cheers

Wow some excellent upgrades in the works. Those connecting rods look pretty sweet. I wonder what boost levels could be ran with those rods. Word is that gturbo has an upgraded blue wheel turbo too. Gonna have to look up Zeal Powerod

400hp or more for the rods says GTurbo, 40psi perhaps.

I went ahead and grabbed a set for my FT even though I don’t plan to push it that hard. I like to try out new products on my Cruisers first before a customers.

The power rod may not work in an FT. I am seeing if I can get a stock OEM one for a 1HDT, a 1HDFT and then compare to the Zeal.

Cheers

Anything else you’re doing to prep the engine for more power? ARP head studs?

Yes ARPs. OEM MLS head gasket. New OEM hardware throughout the short block. New OEM bearings, .50 over pistons which will get ceramic coated tops and skirts. Thats about it.

Cheers

Do pistons need to be machined before ceramic coating?

Just throwing this out there I hand no where near the knowledge you it Tirfab have but I'm running ADS 15mm pump, ADS Injectors, +30 Injectors and red wheel. I asked Tor if he though the Zeal Rod would help and he replied no because my pump and Injectors were slash matched for fuel delivery. If I understood correctly.

See pics, the Zeal has the deep cut and steep angle, the FT does not.

I don’t think they are campatable without even putting calipers on them. Close but not the same. You could however put a profile and grind on the FT rod, I don’t see any reasons why not or at least experiment. The android rod for the FT is still available and fairly cheap.

As far as ADS, one of the best injection shops in Australia from our experience. If we are not running a new pump on the FTE’s they have done the rebuilds. They have also done all the injector mods in all the FTEs. We haven’t ran an FT yet that they built the pump on, they have donee two for us, we-customer just hasn’t ran them yet. I have no idea if they are doing aneriod pin mods on their higher hp 1HDT/FT pumps. With an FTE its on the chip side more vs a mechanical pump. Yes, I agree though, best to have a shop that knows these engines and pumps match the IP to the injectors. Especially if going say over 14/15psi, stock FT was 9psi. 30+psi is a big jump! I may go with HD Automotive for my FT pump, their injection guy has got 325hp out of his FT. I bought my injectors from them as well. 😎

It'll be interesting to see your results..... once I get my boost dialed in I'm going to get it dynoed. Man I need to update my build thread!

I've seen a piston coating similar to this before. Dont recall the name. Swaintech? What did you coat these piston domes with ?

Skirts and tops, two different products. They are ceramic based, I don’t know the name or brand. My machine shop sends them out to be done.

Cheers

Nice, yeah it looks like swaintech gold coat ceramic on the piston domes, and maybe their poly moly or pc-9 on the skirts. good stuff

Have you ever torn one down after running it to see how the coatings held up?
👍
